12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Copper/orange color with a mild chill haze that disappears as the beer warms. Creamy off white head retains very well at a solid inch and a half. Lacing is creamy and coating, covering much of the glass surface.

S: Perfumey floral hops, citrus notes of mandarin orange and other vague tropical fruits. Dry leafy herbs in the background. A big, balancing malt presence of caramel, toasted grain, and toffee.

T: All hops up front. Bite of ruby red grapefruit, touch of pine. Mandarin orange and other pithy citrus fruits. Hops also display an earthy and herbal dimension. A hefty malt backbone tempers the bite of the hops as it picks up steam on the mid-palate. Caramel, toffee, and toasted biscuit bring the beer into balance. Finishes with a lingering grapefruit bitterness and underlying caramel.

M: Hefty medium body. Very full and creamy in the mouth with a slight sense of weight. Moderate carbonation, very smooth. Drinks like a cloud.

O: This is a beer from a bygone era, really. Not too many people are making American IPAs this way anymore. Certainly not your West Coast hop bomb; balance is the name of the game here. Having said that, there is certainly still a place for it. In the end it's just a damn good beer that drinks too easily, and that will win the day regardless of where the style is heading at present. An excellent pairing with a mild to medium-hot salsa.

Review input from notes

Deep orange colored body. Slightly hazy but nothing that detracts from the beer. Two finger eggshell colored head rests atop. The head recedes rather quickly leaving a modest amount of lacing.

The first thing I notice in Hop Devil is a biscuity malt presence. While it is not the predominant aroma, it is a bit more assertive than I would expect for the style. Pine dominant hop aroma is accompanied by pleasant floral and subtle citrus scents.

Sweet bready malt rolls on to the tongue, this is soon overwhelmed by a strong piney bitterness. The hop profile comes off as a bit too one dimensional. There simple is not enough citrus or floral flavors to compliment the overwhelming pine bite.

Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation. The finish is on the drier side and is what should be expected from the style.

Hop Devil just does not do it for me. The hop flavor is not to my liking, I find it a bit abrasive. Not a bad beer, others seem to really like it however it is not one I will seek out.

A: Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a thick white head that sticks around a long time.

S: Strong hop aromas of grapefruit and pine resin dominate the smell.

T: Big spicy hop blast up front. Grapefruit and pine all the way with a barely there peppery note. A bit of toasted malt in the aftertaste.

O: Overall a great brew. The hops are at a level they should be and the brewer didn't try to blast you out of the park with insane ibu's.
