Bavaria’s fabled Ludwig was said to be ‘mad’. The same might be said of us for approaching this German beer style with fistfuls of hops beyond the norm for this style and yeast from Belgium!
Composition
Malt: Imported two-row German malts, including wheat
Hops: Whole flower German hops
ABV: 6.2%
Flavor
High-powered with all German malts and the subtle, spicy complexity of our special yeast, Mad King's Weiss offers a quenching quality that can't be beat.

Poured into my gold rimmed Weinhenstephan wheat glass.
Looks like your standard wheat beer with the exception that it didn't form a tall dense head which is quite common in wheat beers.
The color was yellow gold and quite hazy. At the end of the pour and with a good swirl plenty of yeasty sediment.
It's quite carbonated but still, the head fades to a collar.
Aroma moves away from traditional scents of clove and banana. I get mor yeastiness and sweet bread maltiness.
Drinks well. And very refreshing. It's hoppy and sweet and tart, really good. Plenty of sweet malts. The use of Belgian yeast gives a different twist on the taste, and I like it.
It drinks smooth with a semi bitter finish but as it warms that fell turns flat.
This hefe can stand with the best of them and perfect for a Cape May summer.

I figured a beer like this, which has a description hinting at fruit flavors, would be sweet. It's...not. It's quite bland overall and doesn't offer much to remember. A fine beer to drink, but really lacks character everywhere you'd look for it.
