Served from a growler purchased at the Victory brew-pub.

A cloudy, off yellow color with a small white head. It seems very bubbly. No lacing. No yeast particles.

Lots of bannana with some coriander. A very typical smell for the style.

A bannana type taste is up front, followed by some sweetness. Finishes with a fantastic peppery taste.

A nice light mouthfeel.

Very Good drinkability! This is a grat beer to pick up from Victory and watch Football with friends on a Sunday.

hazy Golden yellow with a good amount of sediment floating around. A very nice large white head of foamy lace took shape on top and had very nice retention, hanging around for a good five minutes before settling down to a more respectable level and leaving behind copious side lace. Smell was very nice, lots of yeast and wheat were evident as well as a nice little bit of bittering hops. A small touch of some light, tart fruit was hinting around in there as well. The taste was classic, very nice light body with a very smooth texture. Great yeast and grass like flavor on top of a light bread back. Some light fruit notes also jumping around and accentuating it very nicely.

Growler filled @ Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting

Initial pour into a Weizen glass yields a fairly clear, golden Hefe with a finger of quickly fading head leaving little lacing. A nice spiciness to the nose, along with yeast and some citrus. Taste is in line with the nose, adding in the typical banana / clove / bubblegum flavors the style is known for. Light carbonation and medium bodied, refreshing!

Never even heard of this until I saw it pop up on the growler station - seems it was bottled at one time but is strictly draught these days. A nice Hefe, nothing mind blowing or out of place.

a: A lot of reviews called this cloudy. Did victory recently start filtering this? My growler pour was a perfectly clear golden color. It poured with a moderate sized head. I'm generally not picky about a beers appearance, but hefes are different and this just didn't look right.

s: All the usual suspects like banana phenols and cloves are here. A bit heavier on the spice than some, but I like it just fine.

t: The cloves at the end were stronger than I prefer, but the big banana flavors up front were very tasty.

m: Big and chewy, spot on for the style.

d: This was good, but its a bit bigger than it needs to be. I felt two glasses more than I thought I should. Also, is this filtered?

A golden straw with a light cloudiness. A smallish head that fades somewhat quickly but there is a good amount of lace so the appearance is still good. Carbonation is low for the style. Smell is not quite as fragrant as you might expect for a hefe. Wheat malt and a nice spiciness. Some lemon and clove with a touch of funk. Not much banana but still an above average nose. A faint note of alcohol. Taste follows the nose but it develops on all of those. The malt is superb and twangy with the lemon and clove really making this one special. There is some bubble gum and cinnamon as well. A bit of soap. Banana shows up bigger here and the finish is hoppier than any hefe I can recall. Not hugely so and not a bad thing, just a different take. Finish is quite dry as a result and this adds to the quenching aspect of the brew. Alcohol flexes a bit as you swallow but it never gets big even as it warms. In general this beer blossoms as it warms up and that allows you to really appreciate it. Feel is smooth and finely carbonated. The lower level really not a problem here. Crisp and refreshing. Drinkability is enhanced by the lower carbonation and overall, between the dry hoppy finish and silky mouthfeel it is close to perfect. Even with the slightly high abv this is a great session beer as long as you take your time and let it get cozy with you.

I went to a Victory takes over the taps night at Rattle and Hum in NYC to score this one and I wish I had more.

A: Poured from a growler to a weizen glass. Had a pale yellow color and a hazy consistency. There was a big, foamy, fairly long-lasting head. OK lacing.

S: A sweet aroma of wheat, bananas, and some spices.

T: Tasted of wheat, mixed with spices up front and bananas in the finish. A generally well balanced flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a super dry finish. Light-bodied.

D: One of the best, most drinkable hefeweizens you can find in the U.S.

Pale golden color-not quite an "off yellow". Small white head on top. Nice spicy aroma-somewhat cloveish and peppery. Crisp and clean tasting. A slight hint of hops. Lemony and citrus like flavors. Slight phenolic taste. Mild banana and clove notes. Very clean in the long run though nicely complex. Good body. Boy I could drink this all day. Light and crisp. I bet the 6.2% would catch up in a hurry. Very, very enjoyable.

This came from a growler I bought at Victory Brewery and Restaurant in Downingtown, PA. I poured it into a pint glass.
Appearance: The body is a cloudy dark gold. The head is three fingers tall, white, great retention with lots of thin lacing.
Smell: The aromas are dominated by bananas, but also have orange and earthy notes.
Taste: The taste is overwhelmed by bananas and doesn't have much else dimension wise.
Mouthfeel: This beer had a crisp mouthfeel.
Drinkability: This is a drinkable beer.
Don't drink and review.

Poured from growler into tall hefe glass.

Yellow with hints of browny orange. Wouldnt say it is hazy, but not perfectly clear. Perfectly white bubbly head.

Muted sweet aroma with a definite spicyness and smell of bananas.

Taste is pretty good. Not as sweet as i expected. Would describe it as a bigger Sunrise but lacking on sweetness. Was honestly hoping it would be more like a Leffe giving the ABV.

Drinks smoothly and quickly. Which doesnt need a warning since this beer comes in at 6.2%. Carbonation is very present but not aggressive. Ends with a bitter dryness in the back of the throat.

Hefes are not my thing, but i wanted to give this a try as it is a brewpub exclusive.

Good drinkability. I tend to think that most Hefes are very drinkable.

This is one of if not my favorite Hefe of all, and it does not disappoint from the growler. Unfortunately Victory does not bottle Mad King's, so I can't get it very often.

The thick head of the beer does not translate from the tap to the growler so the appearance suffers a bit, and the aroma is not as full and intense, but overall it is nearly just as good as my initial glowing review of this beer.

Victory makes a lot of great beer, and I think this is bare none the most underrated of their line.

Had a sample of this at Victory this past Mon (7/23) Took a Growler home based on that experience.

The beer pours a hazy luminescent amber with a pillowy white head. The aroma is wheat and clove with subtle underpinning of tropical fruit. The flavours are wheat, spice, citrus peel, banana, all balanced on one of the smoothest mouthfeel's you can imagine. As for the drinkability, I could have easily polished off the 64oz Growler myself If I didn't have to share. ;-)

Louis IVX would be proud. So the King is mad, and created a Weiss, eh? Mon Dieu! This is fresh from my growler filled up just days ago. Zut alors! Beautiful pour with a 2” white as the driven snow head cover that quickly slides into a scant coating while leaving lattice lace inside the glass. VICTORY’s Weiss fills my gold rimmed 16 oz. Weeping Raddish Pilsner glass with a light golden haze and delicate infrequent bubbles escaping. Good looking unfiltered brew. Vive les Etats-Unis!

Scents of usual Weiss B & B [i.e. Bananas & Band-Aids.] A bit of yellow cake and cloves in the scent as well.

Garde' Marie Antoinette! Closely related taste in connection to the aroma. Fresh bananas, estery cloves, sourdough bread and mixed spices are all present. There is some additional flavor of celery and I swear, darn near a tomato could have been thrown in to this puppy for good measure.

Coupe d’etate: Not too much resistance in the feel. An easy going drinker, despite the complex aromas and flavors. VICTORY Mad King's is comfortable in the beer throne.

Last swigs: No need to chop a wedge de limon with the guillotine tonite, dear! Don’t let this Weiss get too warm. She drops like a stone into average. The sizzle and flavor turn to flat and bland like Cinderella after midnight. A few healthy swirls breathe life into this Weiss, but overall, better sooner than later. Weiss could be an all night drinker if unfiltered wheats and Weiss beers are your cup of tea. As a matter of fact, I have been drinking these all night. C’est vrai!

Biere est bonne. Content biere-ing mes BA amis.

Served on tap @ The Victory Brewery

This beer poured a hazy pale yellow with a thin white head. This was a yeasty and sour tasting wheat ale. I wasn't too impressed with this one. I have had this on tap at Ludwig's and I think I enjoyed that version much better. The body was a bit light and thought it could have been more flavorful. The guy next to me had this served in a large, traditional wheat beer glass so why was my serving in an ordinary pint glass? I don't think it affected the taste though...

I have to agree with phillybeerdrinker on this one. The first time I had this beer in Pittsburgh, all I could think of, boy I wish they bottled this. I love a wheat that has a little more oomph to it. I recently got to try this again when visiting the brewpub. I has a great banana-clove aroma, hazing appearance, with a head that last forever. It is so drinkable, if anything too drinkable, could sneak up on you and definitely get you into trouble. As I've said before, Victory continues to put out great beers, and they have excellent quality control.
