On tap at the Blue Nile, poure into a Summit Hefe Weizen glass by yours truly.

Cloudy and golden, huge rocky, pillowy head, nice and thick.

Aroma: sweetness, & spice, and the usual ethereal delights found in any good, airy weizen. Cloves get louder, and that banana note rises above. Citrus notes peel out, too, eventually. (bad joke, I admit)

Brisk carbonation, big texture, coats the mouth, tingle of hops...very mellow, with flavors of citrus, banana, low-laying spice. Light-bodied, but substantial and satisfying. Little notes of lemon shine through the layers of wheat, bits of banana take turns on the tongue.

Leaves the palate tidily, with a linger of flavor, very refreshing, and urges a further drink.

Nice one.

First of all, if you ever have a chance to go to a Victory tasting GO! It was a great time, a sales rep. put it on at the Pittsburgh Deli in Shadyside. Appearance: Cloudy golden unfiltered wheat beer, leaves behind intricate fine lacing as the frothy white head disipates. Aroma: Touch of banana sharp sweetness from the malted wheat clove and vanilla swirls around in this concoctiobn, underneath all of the phenols and fruit comes a nice alcohol kick. Hefe at 6.2 abv maybe a little out of style guidelines but it's okay this one's Mad. Taste: Amazing alcohol infused you can feel it in the back of the throat, but the banana and clove with a kiss of vanilla do this beer right, wow what a nice beer. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied slightly sticky higher carbonation excellent wheat beer. Drinkability: Only complaint is that it's not bottled, in house at Victory only what a damn shame. I throughly enjoyed this beer our table finished a couple pitchers of it.

The beer pours a gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It's a maltier version of hefe than the Sunrise. It's not as yeasty and has a bolder malt aroma. The taste is good. It has a wonderful malt flavor that adds a thick mouthfeel and complexity. It's easy drinking with a nice Munich malt content. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This was a bit of disappointment. I've been wanted to try this one for some time. All in all, a good hefe.

First had: on tap at Victory, Downingtown, PA

My wife ordered this one, as she's more into the wheat beers than I am. Offering me a sip, I replied: "I reeeeally have to be in the mood for a whe... *sip* ... wow, this is damn good."

Served in a non-descript weiss glass, a golden yellow color, surprisingly little haze for a hefe, with a moderate cap of foamy white head. Soft notes of banana esters and clove on the nose. Similarly, the taste had some nice fruit and spice in it, with a twinge of bitterness up front, quickly giving rise to an uncanny sweetness, that made this one tasty, drinkable brew. Light-medium mouthfeel and a bit chewy, and all things considered, very well done for the style.

Hazy yellow in color with a nice white 1" head. Spotty lace develops on the sides of the glass. The aroma is of citrus and spice. The flavor can be described as quenching and slightly lip puckering as the citrus, banana, clove, bitterness, and a hint of pepper are big while the wheat tried to soften the tones down. Some hints of yeast were also detectable.

Mouthfeel was crisp at the start and finish. The citrus and spices lingered briefly on the tongue after swallowing. Nicely drinkable and thirst quenching too.

Draft at Kraftwork on 2/17/11.

Pours a very hazy golden yellow banana color with golden yellow hues when held to a light and a half finger white head that quickly fades into a lasting ring. Minimal spots of lacing left behind.

Slightly earthy, tart aroma with lots of zesty spice as well as some bready yeast and crisp citrus fruit. Hints of coriander, pepper, banana and lemon peel. The nose is pretty complex with lots of different characteristics bouncing off of one another. Nice and spicy but still has plenty of light, crisp citrus and yeast character.

Full bodied and very flavorful with an excellent balance of bread/yeast, citrus, light fruit and spice. The spice isn't overpowering with subtle pepper and coriander that compliments the citrus lemon peel and light banana flavor very nicely. The ABV of this beer isn't very high but it is well asked with little alcohol flavor, making this tasty beer extremely quaffable. Prominent banana and flavor which is a nice change for the style with the perfect spice, bread and citrus compliment.

Overall, I really enjoyed this beer and it was much better than I anticipated. I can easily see this becoming one of my favorite Victory offerings. Recommended.

Appears a light, cloudy yellow with a small white head that soon fades. A few traces of lacing are seen.
Smell is of lightly toasted wheat, vanilla, bananas, and citrus with a hint of clove.
Taste is of the aforementioned aromas with a nice yeasty texture that is blended to perfection.
Mouthfeel is warm and smoothly inviting. Silky with a hint of clove and allspice that finishes nice and dry.
Drinkability is great. If you're a fan of wheat brews, this is a must try if for nothing else. The only two places you can get it are at the brewpub and at Ludwig's Garten in Center City, PHI.

Finger licking good.

On-tap at the brewery.

This beer seems a little off to me. It's too big and sweet for it's own good. The yeast has come through some spice and banana, but the overall flavor is muddled up by the sweetness, ruining the complexity for me. Maybe it's there and I just can't get it.

Served on tap at the restaurant.

A: The ale is a pale yellow color with no haze and a white head that laces nicely. It, unfortunately, was served with a lemon slice that was promptly discarded.

S: The ale has a soft wheaty aroma and a smattering of spices.

T: The ale has a very soft wheat flavor that is accentuated by some spices, notably a clove flavor that lingers long in the drink.

M: Soft and smooth on the palate, this is good for hot summer days.

D: This is misclassified, in my opinion. It is closer to an American Pale Wheat than a hefe. Either way, it is a good refreshing beer that hides its strength well.

Holy Presentation, Batman! It came in a tall Weiss glass, plus the head was like marshmallow Fluf, or Jack the Ripper's avatar. The color was a cloudy lemon-yellow with a lot of CO2 bubbles present. The nose had alemony zestiness, a peppery spiciness, and a yeasty mustiness. I wnet fruit-free and for Phatz, having fruit with this beer would have been a classic case of gilding the lily. The mouthfeel was thick and full, almost creamy. I got a lot of banana esters as well as black peppery spice in the mouth. The finish was yeast-driven mustiness, like opening a box full of pulp magazines, like mystery and detective fiction or comic books. I know that smell intimately and this definitely mimicked it.

Victory Mad King's Weisse

Pours a bright unfiltered yellow, soapy white head and some lacing. Aromas of wheat malt, banana, clove, whole flower German hops with a grassy, lightly citric smell. In the taste, much like a standard hefeweizen with banana and clove notes, but alittle more lemony than banana, and with lots of herbal, noble hops chiming in with flavor and bitterness. Leafy, oily, mildly bitter Tettnang and Hersbucker like hops giving it a solid German fingerprint on the hop profile. Tea like, and going well with the bready and biscuity malt character. Mouthfeel is light bodied, crisp and quenching. Overall, Victory has a way of nailing German styles, and this is no different. A nice hoppy hefeweizen that remains a go to when its available.

22 ounce bottle into weizen glass, best before 10/2/2014. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy bright gold color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon zest, banana, orange peel, pear, apple, pepper, clove, wheat, bread, light honey, light bubblegum, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, banana, orange peel, pear, apple, pepper, clove, wheat, bread, light honey, light bubblegum, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, banana, orange peel, pear, apple, clove, light pepper, wheat, bread, light honey, light bubblegum, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, balance, and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and hops flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent hefeweizen! All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, pale, malt, and hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured on tap into a wheat ale glass at Pizza Paradiso Dupont DC. Victory tap takeover as part of beer week!

A super creamy even white head of classic hefe style, sitting on a simple dull lemon body going to dull orange in places. Overall looks good and a solid simple hefeweizen.

A very closed nose with an exception of some mild clove and dry sense. Not very citrusy or lemon like either.

Taste is toast with a great classic creamy texture. Creamy banana and fruity in the mid palate, finishing with that cream and smoothness. Missing some of the clove spice left from the nose.

Overall the texture makes up for this, and it reminds me of their seasonal Sunrise beer with that same creamy feeling. However I prefer the Sunrise Weiss beer more so to this one.

A: Poured from a growler to a weizen glass. Had a pale yellow color and a hazy consistency. There was a big, foamy, fairly long-lasting head. OK lacing.

S: A sweet aroma of wheat, bananas, and some spices.

T: Tasted of wheat, mixed with spices up front and bananas in the finish. A generally well balanced flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a super dry finish. Light-bodied.

D: One of the best, most drinkable hefeweizens you can find in the U.S.

Pours a hazy yellow color with a nice big white head. In the aroma, big dry banana, and just a small hint of spice. In the taste, dry banana, clove, and spices. A smooth and medium mouthfeel and a semi dry banana aftertaste. Good flavors of banana and spices, easy to drink and a good body.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a weizen glass, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about a 3-4 inch frothy white head. Head retention is excellent, and there's a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice and yeasty, the brew smells like clove, lemon peel, bananas, wheat/bready malt and some grassy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also a bit of pear and orange peel noticeable, along with a slight bitter finish. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's smooth, easy to drink and has a good amount of carbonation. I think it's a good brew, definitely worth picking up at $4.99 a bomber.

22oz bottle, but my 3yo son knocked over my glass spilling 12-14oz. Oh well.
L - persistent bubbly white head, highly carbonated hazed golden ale
S - fresh aroma with fruit, lemon zest, spicy yeast, biscuit, grass, wheat
T - lemongrass, biscuit, clovey yeast, faint bubble gum, pear, apple, wheat; very different but intriguing with every sip. Definitely a cross between a traditional German Hefeweizen and a Belgian ale
F - lighter body, but higher carbonation makes it feel fuller, finishes semi-dry and fairly clean
O - good, unique, and refreshing, but I don't think I'd buy it again. It was fun to try, but I wish I hadn't left my glass in an inopportune spot to get spilled.
