From bottle in pint glass
Appearance: Much clearer than I have come to expect from a barley wine, this beer is a nice dark amber/copper color. Topped off with a rocky off white head that dissapates quickly.
Smell: Sweetly malty, intensified by the alcohol. Hops evident as well, but they seem to accent the sweetness more than adding much bitterness to the nose.
Taste: At first taste my mouth is beaten by the overwhelming flavor here. Sweet malt much like I smelled, but it goes hand in hand with the hops, right up front. Alcohol is rather noticable. Definitely seems hoppier than I remember from previous years, and to have drifted a little more into the mainstream American barley wine category, where in the past I would have considered it a strong English barley wine. Malt fades relatively quickly, leaving the bitter hops sticking to your tongue.
Mouthfeel: Fuller and heavier than I would expect from the clarity, with an oily hop character in the tail. Astringency is no more or less than I would hope for.
Drinkability: Very dangerously drinkable. The oily astringency leaves you thirsty for more without making it a sipping beer only. I've got to watch myself with this one.

About to go for a walk (Dave is still peeing).
The beer is dark orange / copper with a half inch of tan head. Smells hoppy, boozy, malty. Big beer. ¿Que hora es? Citrus soaked in alcohol. Notes of pine with some alcohol sugars. Good flavor, but the alcohol is too forward. I have trouble appreciating beers of this ilk, where both the malt and hop profiles are so grand that they seem to compete for dominance, rather than dance in harmony. Hop bitterness and alcohol longer on the palate. Overall, good, though not my cup of tea (beer).
