Appearance- Deluxe looks, clear red-orange with an abundant tan head and much lace. a beauty.
Aroma- Dark fruit, raisins, prunes, cherry, grape are dominant with a moderate malty-bready thing
Taste- Having had Mendicino and Anchor B-Wines last week,I meant to not chill this too much. Yet, first sipled with caramel malt into a ponderous port soaked fruitcake with extra yeast....then an oak-wine finish.
Not warmed enough.
Next, after a patient wait,,it's smoothed and sweetened andthe fruitcake has become a grand family classic, not cloying or heavy handed. the finish seems more a honey mead. Alcohol and yeast are suggested but not overbearing. it's not a stout and is not inclined to transform that far but it's become real nice.
Mouth- Hasbody, some stickiness,a nice amount of sparkle but not to excess. Impressive. There's some "boozy' in the finish, which I expect in a Barleywine.
Drinkability...A sipper. at it's ideal temp,a 12 oz is nice...not ready for another. Seems typical that Barleywines are temp sensitive. If it's too harsh..it's probably too cold.
