A: When I poured this beer from a bottle to a weizen glass, it had a pale yellow color and a cloudy consistency. It had the typically huge, long-lasting head and some good lacing.

S: There was a very sweet smell here, with some citrus and other fruits on hand.

T: Flavor consisted of some lemon, banana, some spices and that bubblegum taste you get with this style. Nicely done.

M: High carbonation level and a smooth finish. A full-bodied beer.

D: This is a drinkable beer, to be sure. It's one of the best American examples of a hefeweizen. Very lively and refreshing.

Appearance: Cloudy pale yellow with a big head and good lacing.

Smell: Mostly yeasty, with a fair amount of citrus.

Taste: Lots of lemon tartness backed with wheat and a little clove.

Drinkability: I've had 4 in a very short time period, so I'd say it drinks very easily, very easy to session.

Victory makes some really good beers, this is a good hefe that is just excellent for these hot summer months. This is the first year it has been available in Minnesota as far as I know. Hopefully this means Moonglow Weizenbock makes it here this fall.

Pale yellow straw body, yeasty haze, and a tall, puffy, marshmallowy white head. Good lacing. Yeasty bread aroma with white grapes and banana fruitiness. Light clove and bubblegum. Citric edge. Nice. Tangy wheat bread malt flavors up front. Protein-rich, medium-full body, with rocky, effervescent carbonation. Banana puree, lemon, and grapes with a sweet tart quality. Cloves and yeast in the slightly citrusy finish. Tasty wheat beer and would be even better in the summertime!

Pours a hazy, light straw-orange with a very effervescent and big head that dissipates pretty quickly. Lacing is okay, retention is average.

Aroma is very yeasty, and almost too-much so: I get a lot of phenolic, bready notes as opposed to the fruity esters most Hefes seem to have.

Flavor is top-notch. This is an excellent American-made hefeweizen loaded with sweet bready malt and fruity, banana-like flavors. Very authentic tasting. Aftertaste is bready and yeasty, with a tiny touch of bitterness. Mouthfeel was effervescent and light, but lacked some creaminess. High carbonation, but also high drinkability. This goes down real easy. It's a joy to pour one and a half or two bottles into a big Weizen glass and quaff away.

Victory makes excellent German stylings, and Sunrise Weissbier is no exception.

Pours a slightly cloudy pale yellow with a significant head of foam. Continues to bubble throughout drinking.
Fairly spicy aroma, with cloves and wheat coming through most. A lemony zip comes through in the flavor, along with the cloves, and some banana in the back of the mouth. A bit yeasty going along with the wheat.
Nice refresher for a hot day.

From Notes. Lightly hazy, active, pale yellow/golden with short lived fizzy white head and no lacing.

A little more banana than spicy clove, but pretty well balanced. Some sweetness as well. Like a good Weiss beer should smell.

Light hop bitterness and citrus hop flavors mix well with the aforementioned banana and clove yeasty influences. A bit sharper and more spicy than the nose.

Somewhat distracting tingly bite up front, then thin-ish medium body with pleasant texture and clean finish.

Very quaffable and tasty. Good summer brew. Very well done American made German style wheat beer. I have a soft spot for a good German style wheat, and this one fits the description.

Enjoy by 9/11/05. Pours a very pale hazy yellow with a huge dense white head and tons of carbonation bubbles. Settles down to a pretty solid cap, little lacing however. Smell is spicey cloves over a nice lemony wheat malt, a hint of bananas, and a faint grassy hops. Taste is a smooth rich bubblegum malt, with orange and banana coming through to finish with a nice dose of cloves. Mouthfeel is smooth and effervescent, just bubbling off your tongue. This is a great tasting summer beer from Victory. Easily one of the best American hefes.

Single, 12 oz bottle copped from Monarch Liquors in New York for $1.99...
An aggressive pour yielded a five-finger, full-sized, foamy and frothy head that almost spilled over the serving glass along with a hazy, cloudy, straw-colored, golden hue...
Sweet, wheaty, citrus aroma bursting with strong notes of fresh florals...
Creamy, rich, thick, sweet, satisfying mouthfeel bursting with flavor and a definite, dead-on depiction of the style...
Very good level of drinkability to match with a relatively low ABV that made this easily drinkable and a joy to down...
Good stuff from Victory...

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a hazy yellow straw color with a nice white head. A fair amount of lacing as it goes down. Nose is clove, banana, and some citrus. Maybe a hint of pepper. Taste is a bit sweet and fruity with a bit of spice. Nice, light and cremy feel with good carbonation levels. Overall, a very nice summer beer.

Pours a slightly cloudy pale yellow with a two finger head that settles slowly to a thick cap that leaves thick lacing behind.

Smell; really nice lemon zest smell, along with cloves and just a little bit of banana.

Taste; the lemony citrus stand out up-front, then foloowed by the cloves. You do get the bananas, and maybe a little orange as well. Mouthfeel was pretty light and crisp, and slightly creamy. This style of beer is not one that I usually like, and would not seek out. However, I found myself really enjoying this, and I think I would actually buy some if it was available in my area.

MMmmmm goood beer. Served with a nice, thick, foamy, frothy off white head that lasts a while and good lacing. Color is an almost clear yellow amber and lots of bubble trails. Aroma is a divine blend of malt, banana, spices, bubblegum, yeast. Flavor is classic Bavarian Weisse - malt, citrus, yeast, bit of sweet tart. Body is very good although still a little soft and great carbonation. Finish is like flavor, of good length, clean and slow taper. Very good, session beer.

I am a huge Hefe fan and have tried every German Hefe I have been able to get my hands on. Unfortunately so far I have been dissapointed by most American Hefes so far. I have been impressed with this brewerys other efforts so I was excited to try their Hefe.

A 12 oz bottle poured into my faithful weizen glass. A clear straw yellow with little cloudiness despite my best efforts to agitate the yeast. A robust head that quickly dissipates.

S. Crisp citrusly clove aroma. Very refreshing.

T. Not as robust as my favorite Hefe, Wiehenstephaner, but very good. Holds it's own with the crowd of it's German counterparts.

M. The carbonation is lighter than most Hefes but still a very good Hefe.

D. A great bridge beer. I would love to serve this at my July 4th barbecue. Definitely a great way to baptize BMC drinkers to good beer.

*review from notes on 7/9/10*

Best before date: May 14 2011

Pours a hazy, golden straw color with a big foamy had that fades quickly leaving behind some light lacing. Lemon scents are the first thing that hits my nose, along with some clove and banana notes. Everything in the nose is detected in the taste (more clove and citrus than banana), but magnified - also get some nice bready / yeast flavors in the finish. Really flavorful American Hefe. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, extremely refreshing and drinkable.

Just came back from a beer tasting at my local package store-Victory was the host and I had to bring some of this yummy delight home for consumption.

A: A deep hazy straw color with a generous head.

S: Noticeable sweet/citrusy notes.

T: sdsss oops..sorry spilt some on the keyboard. Many complex layers going on here. Starts off with a citrusy pallat with hints of grass and clove and then moves on to finsih with a sweet bubble gum notes.

M: Creamy, smooth, yummy

O: A very drinkable beer...one of my favorite wheat beers

12oz. bottle poured into pilsner glass.

Having recently returned from a few weeks in Bavaria, I was looking for a something to replicate the great local brews...without the import prices back in the states (example: Schneider Weiss available in Germany for $14 (case of 20 1/2ltr bottles) would cost me $60 at the local shop).

Pour: The light yellow color, big - thin head that quickly fades, and abundance of carbonation was an instant indication of good things to come.

Taste: The first taste, with it's sweet, crisp feel was just like being back in Munchen. This beer holds up as the night goes on, and is the perfect beer for the 90+ degree days we here in the East are currently living through.

Just as important...my wife, who would opt for wine in almost all circumstances but really enjoyed the beer in Bavaria (finally!...a place she'll drink beer) truly enjoyed Sunrise. That's probably a more exacting review of the style and Victory's ability to reproduce it than my own.

All in all, a great summer beer. I'm going to head out later and get some more before it's gone for the season.

A: Cloudy yellow color. Huge inch to inch and a half head. Fell apart fairly quickly and left some slight lacing.

S: The smell didn't blow me away. Just heavy on banana with a hint of lemon and wheat. Pretty standard though for Hefeweizens.

T: Light taste. Not as heavy on banana as the smell indicated. The lemon is also highly present. Actually the more I drink it, the more lemon I taste than banana. Not a bad taste, but I think I would like it a bit more if it were heavier on the banana and lighter on the lemon. There are some hints of spice and grain on the finish. Pretty fruity taste for the most part though which I did enjoy.

M: Feels pretty thick actually, but it's probably due to the above average carbonation which is nice for a change. The bubbly feel is great.

D: Drinkability is pretty good. I could drink a couple of these one right after another without having anything else in between.

Purchased at Wilbur's Liquors in Ft Collins as part of a mixed 6 Pack.

This one pours from 12oz bottle(best by May 24 08) a hazy straw colour with a good head of foam. After a few minutes there's just some spotting of foam and it does have some lacing.

The smell has a strong nose of clove and banana and is nice.

The taste follows the nose with a heaping helping of both clove and banana with a good citric background. Further sips in and I'm getting some good yeast flavour that hits my palate very well and the finish has a nice bitter-sour twang to it. Great summertime brew!! Now *this* is a very tasty Hefe and I'd be more than pleased if this was available locally. I recommend it!

Had this courtesy of daryk77 - much obliged!

Pours a cloudy lemon-yellow color with a huge two-finger white head that slowly dissipates into a thin pancake on top, leaving light lacing.

Smells of banana mostly, but with a solid backbone of grassy wheat and lemon zest. Floral hops also make their way out every now and then.

Tastes similar to how it smells. The banana flavors aren't as large in the flavor profile, instead giving equal weight to the lemon zest, with hints of grassiness in the background. Ending has just the tiniest amount of bitterness.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a good thickness with soft carbonation that makes it go down smoothly.

Drinkability is very good. I downed one of these fast, and when the weather gets hotter I could see myself having a whole lot more than one.

Overall this is another above average beer from Victory. The amount of flavor present and how well they mesh just barely keep this from being a great beer. Still, it's very good and worth a shot.

This beer was exactly what was in order for a sweltering Saturday afternoon. Much thanks to AlexJ for the sample.

As the beer pours a cloudy, golden straw color, bubbles cascade up and a white fizzy head forms.

A yeasty aroma comes forth and is soon met by citrus fruits, orange peel and lemon.

At first taste, there is a slight hop bitterness. This is soon followed by orange peel and lemon. Subtle bready malt notes are also discernable. The sweet and refreshing finish calls out to you to take another sip.

The mouthfeel is light and refreshing with nice carbination.

Victory has created a great Hefe. This would be my regular choice in the style if I could obtain it in my area.

A: Cloudy light peach color with big frothy head that dissipated very slowly and left a nice cap in the bottom of my glass.

S: Great hefe aroma. Bananas and bubblegum, followed by wheat and some citrus. Hints of clove and peppery spices.

T: Huge blast of bananas and spices. Grass and wheat notes, and nice touch of citrus with fresh-squeezed oranges and lemon zest. Great flavor.

M: Ample carbonation. Smooth and refreshing.

D: Excellent Hefe from and American brewer. A great summer beer, but I could easily drink these all year long. Another great offering from Victory. They hit the nail on the head with this one.

Misty, pale morning sunshine yellow with bleached lemon edges. The humongous head of cotton white shares cotton's fluffy softness, yet is still sticky enough to deflate on its own terms... slowly and with style. A relative lack of lace is the only negative.

The nose is wonderfully fragrant and is one of the best hefe weizen noses that I've ever smelled. All of the requisite style elements are in place, with the addition of a lemon peel zestiness that sets it apart from some of the world's other great hefes. Clove spice is the other major contributor and provides the perfect counterpoint to the wheatiness and citrus fruitiness. Very well done.

The flavor doesn't quite measure up to the out-of-this-world nose, but it's a near thing. I can appreciate plenty of fresh, sun-baked wheat flavor, with a restrained amount of sweetness that is balanced by the bitterness of the flowery hops. This is definitely one of the hoppier versions of the style. Since that seems to be a Victory house characteristic and since I love hops, I don't mind a bit.

Because of the generous use of hop flowers, the flavor is at least as lemongrassy as it is banana estery. Ripe banana is easily appreciated, however, and earns a 2.5/5.0 on my hefe weizen banan-o-meter. Although clove spice comes through loud and clear, it's more of an accessory flavor than a dominant one. All in all, hops and yeast get equal billing; unusual for a hefe weizen, but a valid American twist on the style.

I usually like my hefes to be slightly sweeter and more lush (this one favors bitter, crisp, dry and clean), but it's still an outstanding, refreshing ale. The word 'refreshing' is often overused, but it fits this beer perfectly. The mouthfeel is light-medium and is well-carbonated, further contributing to the sense that downing a sixer on a hot July day would be no problem at all. Sessionable? Oh yeah.

Sunrise Weissbier is yet another quality offering from Victory. Are there any styles that these guys haven't nailed? From where I sit, it doesn't reach the stratospheric heights achieved by the German masters, but it's far and away the best domestic version of the style that I've run across so far.

Clear (with a slight chill haze) light golden color with HUGE fluffy white head. It took a few pours to get the whole thing in the glass. I expect my hefeweizens to be a bit hazy.

Beautiful coriander, clove, lemon, and spice. This is the epitome of hefeweizen aroma!

Tart lemon right up front with the classic coriander an clove. Slight earthy hop bitterness with nice floral characteristics. This is a nice blend of modern and classic styles.

There is a nice solid carbonation with a moderate mouthfeel.

This is a fantastic beer. The aromas are spot on for the classic style and the flavors add a nice American flare. I think I like the whirlwind wit a bit more than this one, but I'll be sure to pick this one up again next year when it's back in season.

Pours a cloudy yellow-gold body beneath a full head of rocky bright-white foam that holds well and leaves short splashes of lace about the glass. The nose is peppery, clovey, lemonish, phenolic with bubblegum, and just slightly banana-ish. It's light bodied and zesty before becoming airy on the tongue. The flavor delivers sweet and delicately tangy wheat-based malt that's accented with notes of lemon, clove, and black pepper. It finishes dry with some more lingering clove and pepper. Very nicely done! A refined, highly drinkable, and refreshing weizen that still offers a full flavor and complexity.

A - Pale yellow color with large white head. Bubbly.

S - Fresh hay and grass and wheat. Spice notes.

T - As it tastes. A bit more hoppiness than I expected. Pleasant.

M - Crisp and clean. Dry finish.

D - Highly drinkable. A great summer beer that I'd love to session with. There is nothing about this brew that would make me not want another. The last would be just as good as the first.
