Date tasted: July 5, 2013... Glassware: Rare Vos shaker... Occasion: camp week #1 in the books, and reviewing an old friend....Appearance: pale straw haze; thin off-white head that stills quickly; appears easy-drinking but not overly attractive ... Aroma: tart citric bouquet, with orange and lemon scents softly against some pepper--more intriguing combination than the average summer wit... Palate: a soft yet firm mouthfeel, smooth at the teeth and lacking all (any?) presence at the throat--mega-refreshing, as recalled... Taste: a bit of pepper sneaks in, but far and away a doughy, orange twist that easily sifts down the throat; not complex, but enough profile to compel... Overall: An old friend indeed--this was the first beer I found that fit the easy-drinking summer plan once out of college; surprised I had not reviewed it yet, I had to go back to it; for better (or worse), a case of this could vanish in a mere day or two; better than the sum of its parts....

12oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

(A)- Pours a light and pale yet hazy yellow color. Produced a nice cap of frothy white foam that stuck around for awhile before dissipating. Some good lacing left behind too.

(S)- A very dry and chalky aroma overall. Bits of a grainy wheat meet a dense yeast and subtle lemon citrus notes.

(T)- A nice crisp body to it with focus on the wheat and yeast characters. Subtle bitterness with lemon.

(M)- A good carbonation level with a nice crisp and smooth feel. The balance is definitely focused on the malt and grain bill, which lends nicely to let some of the lemon citrus to speak up here and there in the mouthfeel.

(O)- Its a good witbier, but there are simply far superior beers out there for the style.

Best by 3/8/12.

Pours a murky yellow with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, grain, spices, and Belgian yeast. Taste is much the same with a slight citrus flavor on the finish. There is a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is pretty refreshing.

Arrives a dark straw color with a white head that disappears quickly leaving just an arc around the rim in memory. Lace? No.
Smell is malt, citrus, spices (mostly clove), wheat and a light but odd sweetness.
Taste is spot on the nose with malt, clove, citrus, wheat and a sweet bubblegum note. Not entirely off-putting but still a bit odd.
Mostly full bodied for the style with a nice wheat/malt aftertaste. Overall a good beer but nothing makes it stand out to me.

A: Yellow and semi-hazy, topped with a modest white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Very little lacing.

S: Aromas are spicy plus fruity, with lemons and orange zest.

Overall a solid witbier.

Golden color and pours a good head but dissipates over time with little lacing on the glass. Nose is lemon and honey. Decent carbonation on the front end. Lemon, orange and other subtle citrus flavors give this witbier a refreshing summer heat flavor.

A-Cloudy bright yellow, one finger head, some carbonation.

S-Lemon, orange, spice, grass and wheat.

T-Wheat, grass and spice. Good but a step down from the nose. Not much bitterness.

M-Light, some carbonation but watery.

O-A nice summer beer however it is downhill after the nose.

12 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden straw color with a small fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some light spotty lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of lemon, orange peel, clove, pepper, wheat, bread, grass, earth, and yeast spices. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and decent strength. Taste of lemon, grass, pepper, tangy wheat, orange zest, earth, bread, clove, and yeast spiciness. Light spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, wheat, pepper, earth, and yeast spices on the finish for a short bit. Good amount of flavor, with nice balance and complexity. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a nice crisp and lightly creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is very nice witbier. Good amount of flavor and nice balance; and extremely easy to drink. Very pleasant and enjoyable.

A: Pale yellow, slightly hazy against the light - with visible small particles floating. Lively white head that dissipates quickly.

S: On-point for what I expected: Belgian yeast and wheat.

T: Hard to describe as anything but "subdued wit". Aftertaste of pasteurized orange juice.

M: Very watery, the initial hit of carbonation is very refreshing, but then it all goes away.

O: A good thirst quencher for a very hot day, but not on par with other brews from Victory. Reminded me of Vedett Extra White, minus the atmosphere of Café Belga in Ixelles (which adds a +5 to any beer)

Pours out a yellow hue with a thin whitehead that leaves minimal retention and some lacing. The aroma is yeast, lemon, wheat, and malts. The taste starts out with some lemon, wheat, yeast and follows with some spices and finishes off with more lemon and some grass. Mouthfeel is a nice crisp clean smooth feel that is very easy to drink and overall this is a nice crisp and tasty beer that is nice to drink on a warm summer day or whenever a beer this good sounds good.

12oz Bottle from Potsdam IGA for 2.25$

Appearance – Hazy amber colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains/wheat, banana, lemon, spices

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a slightly above average amount of carbonation. I can taste grains/bread mixed with lemon and some faint yeast. There is also some spicy notes mixed banana. It ends with a somewhat tart lemony and lightly spiced aftertaste.

Overall – I was expecting more from this brewer. It's very drinkable bot not very exciting. The fruit flavours come across as a touch artificial too. Nothing worth searching for.

My very first time having Victory. I was impressed.

If you are a fan of the wheat ales or the dirty blondes, this is the one for you. Crisp & refreshing.

A very good brew for a novice to the beer drinking realm.

Overall: A great every day beer , must try!

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a Scherdel weizen glass.

A: Pours a pale, cloudy, golden yellow color with fierce carbonation to form a two-finger head of creamy white foam that reduces to a thin coating.

S: Bright, spicy citrus notes hit the nose along with a sweetened, malty, wheat twang. Herbal and floral with hints of lemongrass and pepper.

T: Sweet, juicy, peppery malts up front with flashes of lemon peel, coriander and other light, citrus flavors. The herbal, grassy hops kick n around mid palate to dry things a bit. The wheat malts add some complexity to the finish, with a bit of a tart and spicy yeast aftertaste.

M: Light and balanced with a sharp spiciness on the tongue and just a touch of lactic sweetness.

O: Not a bad Belgian-style wit at all and certainly more palatable than some of the popular macro versions out there. The 5% ABV is right on point with just a hint of American bravado in the malt bill and herbal hop flavor. I'd have another, especially on a scorcher like today. In fact...

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with just an inch of foam that leaves a strand or two behind

Smell: Wheat bread, orange peel, banana, brown sugar and a hint of spice

Taste: Sweet and bready malts, with brown sugar and banana, up front; the orange peel and spice blend makes an impact at mid-palate and then joins with the sweeter flavors into the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate, but slightly spritzy, carbonation

Overall: Just an OK wit; drinkable but lacks something in the Belgian spice department

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- A fairly hazy yellow straw color with a two finger white head.

S- Lemon zest mixed with earthy spices and pepper, yeast.

T- Tart lemon zest, pepper, earthy spices, some yeast, a little watery.

M- Smooth, light body.

O- Not a bad beer, but doesn't blow me away, easy to drink, but it is a little weak, seem like it would be perfect after a long hot summer day.

Pours a nice, white head with some nice lacing. The beer is a hazy golden yellow.

Smells of wheat and banana yeast with various spices. The wheat smell mixes wonderfully with a lemon undertone. The spice is rather muted when compared to the rest of the beer.

A lemon undertaste and aftertaste. The certainly come out while the wheat is subdued compared to the rest of the beer. The flavors a little light and feel watered down but I guess it would be expected given the style.

Light bodied with light carbonation.

A good and refreshing beer, especially if it's hot outside.

12oz bottle, enjoy by 2/28/13. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a smallish creamy white head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet lemon peel, pepper, bready malts and musty yeast.

The flavor is sweet bready malts, citrus, some cloves and spice with an earthy yeast finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a pretty decent wit. A little much on the sweet and spicy side.

A refreshing summer beer but not a great witbier. Pours a very light hazy yellow into a Bud Select flute. Weak head, delicate bubbles but not not enough and not enough staying power either. Minimal lacing.

Smell is fairly weak as well, some lemon zest and a little wheat.

Taste is pleasant enough but not that complex. Lemon zest and a bit of wheat bitterness are apparent but Belgian yeast and spices are lacking.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin.

A refreshing beer for the summer but that's about it. Lots of others in the same category.

A: thin head on a cloudy pale golden body.

S: musty lemon custard and breads.

T: mild lemon note which is more sour than sweet. A little tart. Light on the wheat/malts.

M: light body and lighter side of moderate carbonation.

Overall: Definitely drinkable and refreshing. Just not complex enough to separate it from others in the genre.

Poured into a pint glass. This one pours a hazy golden straw color with just a small cap of white head.

The aroma has a nice grainy profile with some lemon zest in the background. Seems to have a trace of sulfur in the background that is a bit of putting, but it doesn't entirely ruin the aroma. Nice light flavor with some orange peel and some mace on the pallet. Nice amount of spice here with a little bit of a bitter hop finish and a touch of lemon.

The body is light with slightly low carbonation. Overall this one is solid. The aroma could be better but we can put this one the list of go-to summer brews for me.

Poured a small 1/2" white head but it had decent lifespan. The body is a hazy raw sienna yellow color with ample tiny bubbles. It smells mildly of malt, grain, and citrus. The taste mirrors the smell but adds a special toastiness to the malt as well as a touch of sour. Decent finish focusing on the sour.

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a pale, somewhat watery yellow coloring with a steady, slow flow of carbonation and a slim ring of white film around the edge of the surface. Aromas of toasted grains, biscuits, and a slight tangy citrus highlight. Flavors are roasted, with a banana and clove backbone that supports the smooth, creamy body. A slight nutmeg and cinnamon highlight throughout, as well. The aftertaste is roasted and clove spiced, with a smooth, creamy finish. Extremely easy to drink, and decent flavor profiles, make this a great summer brew that is a bit heavier and more full than the average fare. Tasty!

S- slight malt and lemon but not much here

A - Big fuzzy foam cap, slight golden body. Mildly hazy - probably not enough to style.

A - Blast of lemon, slightest hint of continental malts. No coriander or white pepper, thank Christ.

T - Sharp lemon. Sharp Lemon. And a hint of... Sharp lemon. Nothing else? Where's that classic Victory malt bent.

M - Lean. I know this style is all about light and fluffy, but I am after beer, not lemon soda.

O - Wishing more Vienna malt was on scene. I am glad some of the more potent Witbier spices were restrained. And this is probably a blue-ribbon-worthy thrist-quencher on swamp-ass summer days. But it was a bit offensive towards the end. They say, life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Same, I think might begin to apply to Victory's Whirlwind Wit.... this would go great with sugar and water.

Bottle poured into a Dogfish Head goblet.

Victory is perhaps my favorite brewery, so I was looking forward to this. Appearance is cloudy and hazy yellow in color. Smells of wheat, yeast, and a touch of lemon, exactly what I would expect out of a Witbier. Some carbonation present.

Taste is top notch. I regret only buying one of these. This is perfect for this time of year - and it is a great time of year - the Celtics and Bruins are charging towards the playoffs and the Red Sox..nevermind.

Anyway, once again Victory comes through with a quality brew that I'll look forward to every year.
