On draught at the Brklyn Beergarden in JFK, Winter Cheers is cloudy gold with a small white collar leaving light lace.

Smell is big hefe esters, both clove and bananas. Yeasty and phenolic as well.

Taste is right in line as well, pure hefe; if it wasn't for knowing the ABV, I wouldn't notice this is bigger than normal.

Mouthfeel is slippery, medium light bodied, a touch flacid.

Drinkability is solid, this is a nice hefe any time of year by my book. Nothing really holiday about it other than being a little stronger then normal.

Note: I am reviewing this as a Witbier, not a Hefeweizen as was listed when I wrote this review.

Appearance: Cloudy pale yellow with massive white head of fine bubbles that are quite sticky.

Smell: Banana, clove, citrus, pepper and wheat.

Taste: Wheat backbone with lots of yeasty notes of banana, clove and white pepper. The citra hops are evident as well, with a strong citrus counterbalance, but no real bitterness.

Feel: Well carbonated with a fuller body than standard for the style. Fairly creamy and dry.

Overall: I am not sure what the deal is with the trend toward Winter Witbiers, but at least this is an amped up version. Very nice beer, even if not quite ideal for the season.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy yellowish straw orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Huge four finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a decent amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell:A yeasty, fruity, and spicy wheat driven Hefeweizen style aroma. Wheat and pale malt upfront with bready hints of cereal grains, hefeweizen yeast, straw, and crackers. Spice hints of clove, coriander, and white pepper. Fruity hints of banana and dried apple. Slight hint of bubblegum. Citrus fruit hints of orange, lemon zest, and pineapple. Light background hints of grassy hops. A pretty solid hef style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a yeasty, spicy, and pretty fruity wheat hefeweizen like taste. Bready taste of wheat and pale malt with notes of hefeweizen yeast, cereal grains, straw, cracker, and hay. Spice notes of clove, white pepper, and coriander. Taste of banana and apple fruits along with some bubblegum. Citrus fruit notes of orange, pineapple, and lemon zest. Slight earthy hop note of grass in the background. A pretty nice crisp wheat taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, and nicely spicy and fruity.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a Hefeweizen style wheat beer. A nice change of pace from the typical winter seasonals.

Beautiful pale golden almost a light peach color with suspended yeast floating through the body, big fine carbonation creamy smooth cloudy white head. Chunky uneven lacing settles as the head dwindles down to the collar. Aroma mild grassy character, citrus, bubblegum, and clove this is a classic German style hefeweizen with a bit more alcohol and a tad more body than an average hefe...they labeled it a celebratory winter wheat ale. Flavor is sharp with a citrus spice combo that is settled by a combination of the wheat and yeast characteristics, I'm not sure if this has spice additions...I'm willing to bet it's just ester heavy from the authentic German yeast strain and the high alcohol. Still quite tasty and smooth going down as long as you enjoy that sturdy carbonation that a true hefeweizen offers. The only mildly cloying aspect is that initial acidity between the sharp citrus/spice combo. Overall a beer that I'm glad I picked up a six to try versus splurging on the whole case that was available at a local wholesaler. This will be enjoyed throughout the winter months, and definitely a nice change of pace from the average overly spiced winter warmer/Christmas ale monotony.

Poured a hazy straw color with no head.

This smells kind of citrusy and a with a bit of grass.

The taste is a nice slight lemon with coriander and spice. A very we'll balanced beer. Also has a bit of dry mouthfeel.

The only thing lacking in this beer would be a good head to give off that pleasant aroma as a previous review mentioned.
