Victory Festbier
12oz, best by 12/16/13

Pours a clear, glowing dark amber. Nice color and great clarity. Head is fizzy and short-lived. No retention or lacing. (3)

Aroma is full of malt, caramel and bread. Touch of fruit or very light ester, but otherwise neither yeasty nor sulfury. (3.5)

Flavor is moderately sweet. Thick malt flavors abound, with notes of caramel, toffee, and date. Hop flavor is completely supporting, just there for a touch of balancing bitterness really. Finish is clean and smooth. Body is medium, carb is a bit too aggressive and large-bubbled. (4, 3.5)

Highly drinkable, would make a great food beer. Another good German style offering from Victory. (3.5)

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a dark copper color with beautiful clarity. The head starts off as a creamy, off-white color that's about one finger high, but fades fairly quickly.

S: This one is actually really nice aromatically. The malts are very rich in caramel, and even some chocolaty hints. After it opens up a bit, it develops some floral, grassy hop notes. Hell, I even notice a distant quality of allspice. Surprisingly deep for a marzen.

T: There's a definite hoppiness (in a grassy expression) to the finish that separates it from some of the sweeter 'Merican-made oktoberfests. It really does help balance out the initial burst of caramel malts well, and even gives a touch of stone fruit flavors. There's also a distant toffee note on the aftertaste, also.

M: I'd call the body medium, the finish semi-dry, and the carbonation bang-on. This one seems to be a bit more savorable than others, too. And it's still very drinkable, as the style dictates it should be.

O: I like this one a lot - it's well crafted, hoppy, yet balanced very well. There isn't much more to say other than the fact that it's quite good.

Fest is awesome. One of their best beers.

A. Dark gold. Nice thick off white creamy head that takes its time to dissipate.

S. Nice strong malty scent. Nostril filling aroma is very sweet.

T. Taste is very malty. Not too bitter but has a nice sweet kick to it at the end.

M. Mouthfeel is nice and light. Not very carbonated either.

O. Overall the beer is great. Victorys best sessional beer and so glad it's year round.

Great job Victory.
