Fully juicy in its citrus character with the pleasantly sharp, biting edges of tart fruit and bitterness, Hop Ranch Imperial India Pale Ale traces its roots to Victory’s Ranch series, a unique and comprehensive study of hops in which Brewmasters experimented with different hop varieties to showcase a range of flavor profiles and celebrate the nuances and distinctions in the resulting series’ recipes.

A great beer. This beer is so different than other IIPAs that I hesitate to put it in the same category. It's more of an imperial pilsner to my palate, but I like that. Azacca hops are hard to describe, so this one is really a must taste in order to determine if you'll like it or not. Give it a try.

very balanced between the light, biscuity pilsner malt, the juicy mosiac, and the lightly grassy and green onion notes of the azacca hop. doesn't taste or feel 9%. one of the most well-rounded imperial ipas i've had in a long while. fantastic.

Just had this on draft, Jan 2015 and it was days old fresh and awesome! Pungent aroma of hops, fresh hops from the vine hitting my nose then followed by the first sip of joy. Had a two fister, Dirt Devil next to it and this Hop Ranch was sublime in comparison. Similar, but another aroma level above the Dirt.

They really got this hop balance right, for me. Onion, grapefruit, earthy. Yes, all I want from an IPA with an aroma that projects at least five feet away from the glass. In my opinion, when you try this from a bottle you have not tasted it yet. I did not like it in the bottle last year, but this years draft rules.

I had heard rave reviews of this beer for a while so when I had the opportunity to pick up a fresh 4 pack I figured I would give it a go.

Appearance: Fairly clear not a lot of head. Nothing really jumps out at you on this one. It looks a lot like an adjunct lager with a little bit of haziness.

Aroma: Some floral notes, nothing really stands out as being spectacular on this one. It has some tropical fruit notes in there but its really not that aromatic.

Taste: I detect floral hops, some tropical fruit notes, but the first thing that hit me is the buttery diacetyl notes. It does go away after drinking it for a few minutes but that initial pour was pretty buttery. It does finish clean and that gives it some points on the taste.

Overall: As much as people have talked this beer up to me over the last year, I was disappointed. Victory and I have a tempestuous relationship. Sometimes I love them and sometimes they just fall short. This one is on the fall short category. Personally I would rather have Dirt Wolf or Hop Devil.

Poured a golden orange body with two finger head that dies quick and leaves lace patches. Classic citric, spicy hop aroma with hints of sweet malts. Smooth, light-bodied, citric hop taste profile with spicy finish and just enough sweetness to keep it balanced and prevent it from being overly dry/bitter.

L: crystal-clear, brassy-yellow liquid into which tiny specks of sediment suspend... white foam, messy, not a ton of stick

S: burlap hop sack, dried grapefruit rind, spicy herbs... underlying, slimy tropical fruit flesh... resiny hop bracts ride up atop a mist of subtly perfumy alcohol

T: vaguely white grape fruitiness below elegantly bitter orange pulp... toasted multi-grain cracker up front and in the finish, its grassy-earthy flavor complimented by the herbal and citrus peel hop notes... definitely kinda like real good weed in the aftertaste... overall, dry, with bright flavors and a pleasant sharpness that cuts through its smooth alcohol sweetness... becomes increasingly herbal as it goes, with its exotic floral flavors receding

M: slick and lightly foamy on the flow with a cotton-soft finish... it just vanishes, though not without a tiny flare of boozy warmth at the back of the throat... ultra clean and polished, with soft carbonation... couldn't do much to improve

O: once again, another one of Victory's strong IPAs shines... I've always loved the German approach to their construction... too bad I didn't buy another bottle - a lovely brew

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a narrow tulip. Best before date of 4-25-15.

Nice clear golden color with a 1/2" white fluffy head. Recedes to a thin layer but comes back nicely with a swirl. Leaves some spotty lacing.

Juuuuicy nose. Lots of mango, tangy pineapple, red grapefruit juice, pine, passion fruit. A little peppercorn. So good.

More juiciness on the taste. Mango & pineapple juice, grapefruit, spicy pine and peppercorn. Long finish with grapefruit zest, herbalness, and more peppercorn. Comes on juicy with a little fruity sweetness, ends dry. Not much alcohol presence. Fookin noice.

Medium bodied, lush and juicy. Lingers around in your mouth as it finishes then fades away nice and dry.

This is a damn delicious DIPA. Fruity, juicy, unique, balanced, and well crafted. Just when you think everyone has done everything that can be done with IPA in all its forms, this one comes around and impresses me. Beer of the year so far for 2015.

BBD 5/24/15. Pours a clear light amber (golden). However, the bottom of the bottle pour produces a some flocculants. Normal head volume, lacing and slightly below normal retention. Nice nose of sweet blended tropical fruit over a light orange rind note. Light medium body with a good bit of oiliness to the texture. Well carbonated with a good effervescence in the middle and more in the finish. The outstanding flavor profile is intense (hop flavor forward), extremely well balanced and complex. It begins with an effervescent burst of blended hop flavor (tropicals such as mango, pineapple, but never really separates). This flows into a moderate bitterness in the middle that contains a slight pepper note. As the bitterness fades, a biscuit sweetness emerges with hints of orange. The finish is a slow fade into a lingering orange zest flavor bitterness and a slight nice alcohol warming at the back of the throat.

This strikes me as a pretty unusual IIPA. Very light in color, and doesn't drink at all like its 9% abv. The flavor reminds me strongly of a white wine—and not in that NZ-hopped winey way.

A gift from my brother Curt. Thanks!
Im sampling in a snifter at cellar temperature.
The beer pours a clear golden hue, but does have some very fine suspended sediment. Bleached white creamy head of 1 cm foams up and fades rapidly to a sturdy edge layer and wispy minimal surface bubbles.
The aroma is heavy with hops as expected and I find some floral hops and a bit of grass and some juicy fruit notes. Complex and robust hop aroma here, that I enjoy. I do get a little bit of grainy malt buried behind the hop front notes.
First sip reveals an average body and very fine tingly carbonation. Flavor is briefly sweet grain but then rolls to floral and herbal hops. I also get a bit of tropical fruit, maybe pineapple. I do get just a little peppery booze at the swallow but no heat, which is surprising for a 9.0% brew. Could be sneaky dangerous to have more than a few.
Very easy to drink this tasty brew and glad to have had a chance to try it.

I picked up a 4-pack of this today ($11.00 at The Beer Store in Nashua). Label notes it should be enjoyed by 21MAY15. Have had Ranch R and the original Ranch DIPA, so I can only assume this is the final result of the Ranch experiment.

Poured one into a Sammy pint glass. It was a slight bit cloudy, and a light golden-straw color. Carbo is plentiful and drives hard towards the surface. The head is a fine, thin layer of stark white foam. Most of it congregates at the rim, and some decent lace is left arrears. Aroma has a nice combo of pineapple and tangerine, which is quite enticing. I only wish it was more "in yo' face". Body was a solid medium, and there was not much prickle to detract from how it felt on the tongue.

Flavor has a bit of bready, crackery malt, though not much. There's some grapefruit and a little tangerine, though it leans more to the bitter side than the sweet. Bitterness is personified in the rindy, pithy aspect here, as any hint of sweetness now takes a back seat. It also has a touch of pear and green apple, imo. Solid, overall, but not their best. I just previously had a Baxter Bootleg DIPA, which I thought was better. I will have to try this next to a DirtWolf soon, too.... (Edit: 2hrs later... having a Hop Ranch side-by-side with a DirtWolf... the latter is a tiny bit sweeter and less bitter... I like the DW more right now, and I had rated it higher [4.26] earlier). Prosit!!

Enjoy by May 3, 2015 on bottle. Consumed 12/31/14. Happy NYE.

Surprisingly bright and clear yellow, like a light lager. Nothing stands out to me on this one. I think I prefer Dirt Wolf over this.

An Imperial IPA that pours yellow like an adjunct lager? Seems a bit out of place but that weak fascade is redeemed by a fruitful, extravagant nose. Citrusy tangerines, nectarines, light grapefruit, apricots, honey, caramel maltiness, pithy rinds and pine needles are abundant.

The flavor is good but it's held back by a waxy texture and bitter feel. I get some nice fruit flavor like oranges, limes, perfumey hop cone, light herbal notes, lupilin, honey, very little malt, lemon and pine.

Brilliant light golden color, with a lingering, frothy white head.

Aroma is resiny, floral, and tropical, with notes of honeysuckle and pineapple initially dominating. Hints of peach and grapefruit emerge. Smells a bit sweet.

Flavor reveals a honey sweetness, which becomes resiny and bitter at the finish. Notes of fruit cocktail, grapefruit and mango accompany pineapple and a resin dominance in a pretty complex hop character, throughout.

It's more bitter and biting at the finish than I'd prefer, but I love the accompanying sweetness and hop fruit character.

I don't know what was wrong for me with this one. Normally LOVE Mosaic, but this hit nothing pleasing in terms of smell, taste, feel, etc. Had to post a review for this to go through, no wonder the average pDev is so high.

I would avoid this one. Dirtwolf is way better.

Bottle dated enjoy by 24 May 2015

Look - Light honey in color with a beautiful fluffy white head. Slightly hazy, with yeast and proteins in suspension. Very good head retention and lacing. 4.5 paws.

Smell - Not especially aromatic, but noticeably fresh. Slight vanilla, and mystery flavor fruit snack. Orange marmalade. Nothing comes through full throttle, but pleasing enough. 4 paws.

Taste - Bitter at the front. Orange peel mixed with pine and white wine. Bitterness is there, but not overpowering, lingers very slightly and pleasantly. Slightly sweet on the finish, with a carbonic tingle and coating of alcohol. 4 paws.

Feel - Very light. If not for the burn of alcohol you may not know it was there at all. The light mouthfeel contributes to a drinkability that makes this very dangerous at 9%. 4.5 paws.

Pleasantly surprised by this beer. 9.0% but not boozy at all. Nice citrusy hop character, and a beautiful golden color. Smell is a bit "meh," especially given the potent hops. A smooth, tasty beer that I will definitely get again.

Pours a hazy yellow-orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and slight earth aromas. Taste is much the same with sweet citrus fruit and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

12 oz bottle poured into small hotel glass

A: superb clarity, looks a little darker than bud light in the glass very soft pour and very cold so no head.

S: smells very bready at first hint a light straw smell reminiscent of a pilsner

T: Very big hoppy presence a floral fruity hop but more floral and has a lot of a pilsner taste but super hoppy

M: very medium bodied for 9%

O: I remember this being more fruity and over the top hoppy now it tastes more bready and more like a pilsner. I think in a month of so this beer might actually be better than it is now.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden orange with a medium creamy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is spicy floral oniony hops.

The flavor is a little sweet malt and a bunch of spicy floral oniony hops. The mouthfeel is medium to fill bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, not my kind of hop profile.

Exploiting the hottest and newest hop varieties on the market with mosaic and azacca blends, no other style could have put them on better display than the imperial IPA.

Hop Ranch pours a mostly bright straw but with only a thin translucent film. With its wisping swath of foam coaxing the nose closer and closer, it does so with vibrant citrus, tropical and herbal blends. But with the light sweetness of caramel and honey seeping onto the tongue, a candied fruit flavor emerges.

With the hops and malt intertwined, the taste seems juicy, ripe and dripping with fructose flavors of mango, passionfruit, pineapple, pink grapefruit, lemon and gooseberry. As the malt sweetness bows out gracefully upon the middle palate, the hops intensify and develop the pungent character of chive, tomcat and cannabis just ahead of its finish.

Medium-bodied, but trending dry, bitter and with absolute cleansing properties. A touch of alcohol hides behind the hops and offer a mild acetone spice. Lingering with sassafras tea, sprucy hops and dried fruit peel, the beer begs for quicker drinks than a nine-percent beer should.

Had three or four if these over a few days before rating. Overall very good. Similar to founders harvest with just a tad of a dry alcohol heat at the finish that makes it very slightly imbalanced. But good shit and at $45 per case a real bargain.

I really like when DIPAs use Pilsner or any super light malt. Really makes the hops stand out and shine. Mosaic hops make this one juicy brew that is dangerously drinkable for 9%. And at 10 bucks a 4 pack? This is a no brainer.

Between this and dirtwolf, victory is slaying the hops right now.

A - Pale orange, almost golden with a quickly dissipating head. Sediment in the glass too.

S - sweet citrusy hops, hints of pine way in the background but citrus dominates. On the weak side for nose but very nice nonetheless. .

T - strong bursts of citrusy hops that somewhat follow the nose. Doesn't indicate on the bottle but it tasted like a fresh hop harvest ale. Very drinkable for a 9% ale. I don't get that boozy finish I get with many other 9%ers.

M - strong on the carbonation but a fresh feel to it.

O - This is a terrific beer and I'll purchase again each time I see it. $10 per four pack is a great value too. I prefer this one over Dirtwolf, which I love as well. Get some.
