Fully juicy in its citrus character with the pleasantly sharp, biting edges of tart fruit and bitterness, Hop Ranch Imperial India Pale Ale traces its roots to Victory’s Ranch series, a unique and comprehensive study of hops in which Brewmasters experimented with different hop varieties to showcase a range of flavor profiles and celebrate the nuances and distinctions in the resulting series’ recipes.

I great offering from Victory. Light straw colored body with a sticky bouquet of floral and juicy tropical fruits, white grape, sweet tarts, glassy and citrus. This beer is all about the hops without tongue numbing bitterness.

Bottle from ABV.

A mildly hazy pale yellow with a dense, white head with excellent retention and nice lacing, this looks great. The nose is dominated by a big spicy and fruity hop character, pungent and piney with melon, grapes, citrus, a touch of grass - pretty darn solid! The Mosaic hops have a beautiful bouquet, delicate and floral. Malt character is minimal.

The palate opens with a fruity and floral blend of jasmine, melon, grapes, citrus (navel oranges, some grapefruit), lemon verbena and a touch of lemon mint, Creamy on the palate with soft, supple carbonation, this beer is medium-light in carbonation. The mid-palate continues to focus on the fruity aspects, deemphasizing the bitterness. The finish is mildly oily, mildly resiny and mostly fruity with a moderate bitterness, bright and refreshing. A shade grassy towards the finish. Almost west coast like in execution, this is fantastic stuff. .

A: Cloudy gold with a nice white head.

S: HOPS! Tangerine, lemon, fresh cut grass, citrusy floral aroma.

T: Big hop up front. Grapefruit, lemon, citrus flavors on the front end, followed by the astringent lemony, bitter yet slightly sweet finish. The finish is long and dry, so you want another drink as soon as you savor the first sip!

M: Silky smooth, with perfect carbonation. Like most top notch IPAs, the mouthfeel exhibits the hops and enhances everything.

O: This is a top notch IPA. Most east coast IPAs tend to be a bit too sweet/malty for my hophead tastes, but this one breaks through. Put Hop Ranch up there there with the best west coast IPA's, this one is a champ!

12 oz bottle from a four pack, enjoy by May 24th 2015.

A - Pours a pale gold, with a one finger head that moves to thin creamy lace.

S - Grapefruit, hops, pine

T - Citrus, pine, bisucits/bread, some tang on the finish to go along with the bitterness. Also picking up notes of blueberry and some grass.

M - Crisp, clean, refreshing. Carbonation a touch above average.

O - Some interesting notes, great aroma, solid overall.

Here’s another super-fresh, super-tasty IPA from Victory that isn’t getting noticed so well, yet is, in my opinion, a world-class IPA.

Appearance: Light, golden clean, with a thick head of fine white carbonation. Nice tree-line lace.

Aroma: Spectacular tangy citrus hops, with some tropical fruity notes even. Maybe a bit of dankness sets in as it warms, but this is quite a harbinger of great things.

Taste: Tropical hops explosion in a lush, drinkable, and well-balanced setting, especially for the ABV. Even the wife, upon tasting blindly, remarked at how light it seemed. Tastes as refreshing and light as a session IPA, but with a 9% ABV level, this one’s very deceptive and sneaky. Tangy, fruity, and absolutely delicious. Will buy again, yes.

such a delicious big boy ipa, packed with a mosaic fruitiness and a simcoe oily property, not sure if those are the varietals used or not, but this beer exhibits very similar properties to both. very blonde beer, honey colored and clear with a nice white head. the nose is just dripping with fruity oily hops, and the grain base interferes little, despite the abv. the flavor too is a hop explosion, as fresh and as vibrant as any i can recall. notes of grapefruit, tangerine, cut lawn, and even green grape are all there for me, and the finish still comes on nice and bitter. the malt base never makes much contribution, as the body is light, appreciably dry, and leaving only a slight hop stickiness there after the swallow. fresh is the word that keeps coming to mind for me on this one. the alcohol can be felt but not at all tasted. i love this, even more that dirtwolf i think, one of the best east coast india pale ales ive had in some time.

APPEARANCE: The head is a finger and a half thick and lasts for a good 30 seconds before it falls into a nice, cap. The cap tops off a murky, burnt orange beer beneath. Tiny bubbles rise from the sides of the glass while a few larger bubbles can be seen towards the middle through all the haziness.

SMELL: Wow, that is fresh! Orange, pine, mango and apricot dance around with a touch of grapefruit and grass. This smells amazing, just wish it had a little more intensity.

TASTE: There is tropical fruit everywhere on this and it’s really juicy. All the fruit from the smell is there, but the grapefruit seems to be more intense, and there’s a little lemon I didn’t get with my nose, providing a nice, bitter bite.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body with a little stickiness and a very dull tickle. The balance is excellent with some sweeter, sticky, fruity notes to start followed by a drying bitterness.

OVERALL: I don’t know if this one is better than Dirt Wolf, but at the very least its close. I will reach for this again.

Pours a hazy golden orange, with a nice fluffy off-white three finger head. Great retention and lacing. Smell is big citrus, with orange and grapefruit, along with some tropical mango and pineapple notes. Didn't get much malt in the smell or the taste. The taste was very grapefruity up front, with some orange and pineapple notes. The mouthfeel was kind of flat, seemed to be missing some body, with very light carbonation. This is once again a great beer from Victory, I'm glad we can find them here in Colorado.

For the love of Pete... Loads of citrusy oranges and pineapple here with a hefty dose of booze... Drinks lighter than I was expecting... Cracker malts sure try to make a presence but they are overwhelmed by the sheer onslaught of hops... Not sure I could drink more than one at a time due to the bigness of it but this is super delicious...

12oz bottle into a tulip
Best before: 03 May 2015

A: Light pale straw yellow, crystal clear but with tons of speckled floaties, 1.5 fingers width of bright white head has good retention before dissipating down, and leaves a good amount of lacing. 4

S: Super dank, resinous, floral. Some pine and and subtle citrus. Finally an IPA that isn’t all citra hops and malt. Love it. 4.5

T: Piney, some sweetness, floral, bitter, citrus rind. The hop profile from the aroma didn’t translate as well to the taste as I had hoped, but still very tasty. 4.25

M/D: Medium body, carbonation appropriate, ABV noticeable but barely, drinkability is good but not great. 4

O: Very good DIPA here. Victory is a damn consistent brewery. Well done. 4.25

Poured from a 12 FL. OZ. bottle into a pint glass. ENJOY BY: 06 JUN 2015.

Look: Pours a clear pilsner golden with a decent white head. Lots of sediment = bottle conditioned?

Smell: Tropical fruits and sweet candy. Nice bready malts. Very nice!

Taste: Bready sweetness of pilsner malts. Light tropical fruit hop flavor from the Mosaic and Azacca hops.

Feel: Very full bodied. Can feel the sediment across my tongue.

Overall: Another outstanding pilsner malt-based, newer hop blend Double IPA. Right up there with Victory Dirtwolf and Lagunitas Sucks. Not quite at the same level of complexity as Stone Enjoy By.

Look - 12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a very hazy dark gold, nearly orange. 1 finger white frothy head, quickly dissipates to a solid lace.

Smell - Orange juice, grapefruit, slight grass, slight pine.

Taste - Probably one of the most orangey tasting IPA's I have had. I like that a lot. Well-balanced, hop flavor comes out more after letting it warm for about 30 minutes. This is where it hits its stride.

Feel - A lot of these DIPA's shock me by being so smooth. This is one of them. Drinks like a 5% beer. Very crisp and refreshing. The booze doesn't even come out after it warms a little. I can't say that for all DIPA's.

Overall - I was okay with this at first, but after it warmed up for about half an hour it really impressed me. Solid example of the style and very orange-centric. Probably the most orange juice tasting DIPA I have had. Thought that was unique and cool.

Very fresh bottle that just missed the mark entirely. Aroma was all over the place, none of it a good place though. Almost sour malt, the hop combo just not pleasant at all, partly for its weakness as much as its poor accord. Palate wasn't much better, some astringent hoppiness, extremely little actual hop flavor, overly full malt feel. Bad batch? Perhaps, as freshness wasn't an issue. Needless to say, highly doubt I'll revisit.

Really light in color. Great aroma, light and drinkable for a DIPA. Does not taste like a 9% beer. Low bitterness, high on hop flavor. Lots of citrus and nothing like Dirtwolf in my opinion. Good stuff.

Gorgeous pour with slight haze and bottle sediment at the bottom. Nice creamy off-white head. Nose gives me a delightful mix of fruity aromas, and I continually think of melons, melon rind, and perhaps some peach. Nice, full creamy body on the palate with light candied malt offset by big tropical hoppy flavors. Finish is long with a little boozy bite at the end.

I live 10 minutes from Victory and would get different variations of their ranch series on tap every now and then. I'm so glad they finally decided to bottle one of them. This is a great, big beer.

On tap @ Mad Mex

Appearance: Golden color with little head; Both this and DirtWolf look subpar for a IIPA

Smell: Bright fruits, peppercorn, slight onion

Taste: Same as the nose except toned down a notch. Bright fruits with a peppercorn undertone. Its very tasty, but not in your face hoppy

Mouthfeel: Medium body ; A little light in feel but on the other hand the alcohol is masked pretty well . Carbonation is spot on

Overall: As with Dirtwolf, this is one hell of a IIPA. This one has more of a peppery/onion undertone. Has the perfect spice for winter without going overboard. However, like Dirtwolf, its a bit light in taste and aromas to be among my absolute favorites (Enjoy By, Head Hunter). Id rather have a DirtWolf any day of the week, but this is a good local seasonal and for under $40 a case, you cannot go wrong.

A great beer. This beer is so different than other IIPAs that I hesitate to put it in the same category. It's more of an imperial pilsner to my palate, but I like that. Azacca hops are hard to describe, so this one is really a must taste in order to determine if you'll like it or not. Give it a try.

very balanced between the light, biscuity pilsner malt, the juicy mosiac, and the lightly grassy and green onion notes of the azacca hop. doesn't taste or feel 9%. one of the most well-rounded imperial ipas i've had in a long while. fantastic.

Just had this on draft, Jan 2015 and it was days old fresh and awesome! Pungent aroma of hops, fresh hops from the vine hitting my nose then followed by the first sip of joy. Had a two fister, Dirt Devil next to it and this Hop Ranch was sublime in comparison. Similar, but another aroma level above the Dirt.

They really got this hop balance right, for me. Onion, grapefruit, earthy. Yes, all I want from an IPA with an aroma that projects at least five feet away from the glass. In my opinion, when you try this from a bottle you have not tasted it yet. I did not like it in the bottle last year, but this years draft rules.

I had heard rave reviews of this beer for a while so when I had the opportunity to pick up a fresh 4 pack I figured I would give it a go.

Appearance: Fairly clear not a lot of head. Nothing really jumps out at you on this one. It looks a lot like an adjunct lager with a little bit of haziness.

Aroma: Some floral notes, nothing really stands out as being spectacular on this one. It has some tropical fruit notes in there but its really not that aromatic.

Taste: I detect floral hops, some tropical fruit notes, but the first thing that hit me is the buttery diacetyl notes. It does go away after drinking it for a few minutes but that initial pour was pretty buttery. It does finish clean and that gives it some points on the taste.

Overall: As much as people have talked this beer up to me over the last year, I was disappointed. Victory and I have a tempestuous relationship. Sometimes I love them and sometimes they just fall short. This one is on the fall short category. Personally I would rather have Dirt Wolf or Hop Devil.

Poured a golden orange body with two finger head that dies quick and leaves lace patches. Classic citric, spicy hop aroma with hints of sweet malts. Smooth, light-bodied, citric hop taste profile with spicy finish and just enough sweetness to keep it balanced and prevent it from being overly dry/bitter.

L: crystal-clear, brassy-yellow liquid into which tiny specks of sediment suspend... white foam, messy, not a ton of stick

S: burlap hop sack, dried grapefruit rind, spicy herbs... underlying, slimy tropical fruit flesh... resiny hop bracts ride up atop a mist of subtly perfumy alcohol

T: vaguely white grape fruitiness below elegantly bitter orange pulp... toasted multi-grain cracker up front and in the finish, its grassy-earthy flavor complimented by the herbal and citrus peel hop notes... definitely kinda like real good weed in the aftertaste... overall, dry, with bright flavors and a pleasant sharpness that cuts through its smooth alcohol sweetness... becomes increasingly herbal as it goes, with its exotic floral flavors receding

M: slick and lightly foamy on the flow with a cotton-soft finish... it just vanishes, though not without a tiny flare of boozy warmth at the back of the throat... ultra clean and polished, with soft carbonation... couldn't do much to improve

O: once again, another one of Victory's strong IPAs shines... I've always loved the German approach to their construction... too bad I didn't buy another bottle - a lovely brew
