Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a golden amber color with a half finger head of white foam and lots of little carbonation bubbles seen streaming through the brew. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of biscuit pale malt smell mixed with a rather stronger showing of a bready and light cracker aroma. Along with these malty smells comes some lighter sweet aroma of an orange and honey smell. A somewhat yeasty and lemongrass smell mix with the moderate showing of pine and grapefruit hop aromas to produce a rather interesting and malty IPA smell overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready and biscuity malt taste mixed with some sweeter flavors of caramel and orange. A little bit of a honey taste develops early on and mixes with the more bready and other sweet flavors nicely. These tastes are soon complimented by some nice grapefruit hop flavors as well as a bit of lemongrass. As the taste advances, the sweeter flavors began to fade with the biscuit transitioning more toward a drier cracker flavor. All while this occurs, some lighter yeasty flavors and a bit more hop of a floral and grassy nature join the tongue. With a bit of pine as well as a slight increase in the sweetness with a little bit more honey also coming at the very end, on is left with a semi-sweet and moderately hopped biscuity pale malt flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side for a brew of 7.1 % abv. with a carbonation level that was on the slightly higher side. Decent for the style as it did make for a rather crisp IPA that was quite drinkable, but for accentuating the hop flavors over the crisper pale malt, a little thicker body and slightly lower carbonation may have been slightly better. Overall, the feel was just OK.

Overall – A decent IPA overall, but a little too malty and muddled with lots of flavors that didn't really necessarily meld all that well together. I will be interested however to see how this evolves with version 2.0. I am looking forward to it…

Clear orange copper pour with a foamy white two-finger head. Nice juicy citrus aroma. Flavor is light with a slightly floral hop bitterness backed by light honey that smoothes the flavor out. There's definitely a strong malt presence with flavors of bread and crackers. Finishes with a mild lingering floral hop flavor. A good beer but nothing really stands out.

I have been curious about this beer since its announcement months ago. Eight bucks is fairly cheap for a large format bottle, so I picked one up. Poured into a snifter.

The beer is a pale golden color, and produces less than a finger of off-white head, with minor retention. The aroma is interesting and varied, likely due to the multiple hop varieties utilized. It smells of lemongrass, lime peel, white tea, and honey. The taste follows with a heavy bitter hop character, that combines with the citrus character to resemble cardamom with maybe a little grapefruit, and lingers for a long time. There is a slight herbal character, coming across as black or white tea. Also present is a slight sweetness, kind of like lemon candy. The mouthfeel is decent, with medium carbonation and a light/medium body.

I will probably invest in future entries in the Moving Parts series, but I will probably not seek this first one out again. Sort of a strange combination of flavors, that, while interesting, was not hugely satisfying. There was perhaps a bit too much going on in terms of ingredients here, so I'm interested to see what tweaks will be made to the recipe.

They forgot to turn on the hype machine for this one. Only bothered because it was $4 for a bomber... it's much cheaper per ounce than the overrated Dirt Wolf and the awful Hop Ranch. Pours a clear light orange, two fingers thick creamy white head, settles to a thin layer, a few rings of lace on the glass. Smell: nothing special but (omg!) quite similar to DW -- pine, light biscuity backing, grapefruit peel, floral. Taste: white nectarine, white grape juice (sweet), light biscuit, sweet citrus. Body is pretty light for 7%; finish is fine and hop soaked. Pine burp. This one might be even more like past Victory IPAs. Found the change of wording of the best by date to be quite humorous -- it's now "Enjoy by:", well on my bottle it's actually "[NJOY BY: 06 NOV 2014" and way too far out to be taken seriously. Don't think I'll bother with #2.
