We like to mix it up. New flavors, new ideas, new ingredients; we welcome them all. In celebration of our penchant for prolific experimentation, we present Moving Parts: The Ever Evolving IPA. Each release in this series celebrates a tweaked ingredient or two, creating an endless array of possible flavor profiles.
For our first batch (codenamed MP01), we blended whole-flower hops from the US, UK and Germany with German malts to create an IPA featuring citrus and piney notes. For us, Moving Parts are a good thing!

Next up. a short break. Not from Bottles (!), but from Tavour. I am taking a break from The CANQuest (tm) to run through some Bottles (gasp!). It needed to be done & this will pave the way for a massive return to CANs when I'm done.

I Pop!ped the ancient, rusted (!) cap & hoped for the best as I started my slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I think that this bottle resided in a cooler for a bit longer than intended. Hmm. It foamed like a champ to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention. Color was solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled very piney, so perhaps it had not suffered after all. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was really bitter, like the hops had not fallen off at all or they only used a modicum of malt(s)! Phew. It was really piney at first, followed by a grapefruit-citrus burst! The result was a really cool, minty flavor with a grapefruit twist. I wonder what it was like in its infancy. In its old age, it finished with a pronounced dryness that had me reaching for my asthma inhaler! Phew. YMMV.

this has been a weird series for me so far, not totally successful, but interesting enough. i like the hop profile on this one a lot, with all the german and english strains, but i am not in love with the pilsener malt base that they chose to use for it. clear and blonde, it looks like a pils or a golden ale, nice white head though with good good retention. aroma of those euro hops is crowded out a little bit the intense biscuit and pils malt smells, which are strong here. grassy vegetal hops are more apparent in the taste, but again over shadowed by the pils malt for me. that bready base just doesnt allow this beer to get to the ipa level with the hoppiness. as a hoppy pils, i think its excellent, but as an ipa, its too malty, even though its this pale. nice carbonation though and i can see it being quite refreshing, but again the abv forced by all the grain in the mash sort of turns me off, makes it less sessionable. that aspect could be scaled back and this would be a much better beer i think, or at least more agreeable to my palate and the ipa style.

The first taste offers that hop explosion you want from an IPA along with carbonation and a lingering and prevalent citrus. The pine comes in with the citrus and a hop residue that lingers for a while...you can taste the pine minutes later. The flavor stays strong throughout your entire glass. Its brewed with whole flower hops from Germany, the U.S. and the U.K. so its pretty hop forward. It did have an enjoy by date of Nov 2014 but I’m not sure the extra 4 months affected it too much; still tasted great.
