A - Very dark brown in color, borderline black color with a creamy, thick toffee colored lacing ring.
S - Mocha, dark cocoa, deep roast, milk.
T - Dark chocolate roast from start to finish, sweet and bitter cocoa, some milk, and finishes with a lingering dark roasted chocolate bitterness.
M - Medium body that's more on the light side of medium, gentle carbonation, very dry finish.
O - 8.5% that's undetectable along with the roasty chocolate makes this one dangerously drinkable. It could stand to be a little thicker in the body, this beer would be a good candidate for some whiskey/bourbon barrel exposure!

March 9th, 2015 - The label art on Victory's Deep Cocoa really wants you to know it is deep and sultry. Unctuous and almost erotic, the trailing, goopy looking typeface matches the head, which clings tenaciously and erratically to the inside of the pint glass. The aroma is a lovely and deep with hazelnut and roasted almonds, with a touch of smoke. And indeed, after some meditation I decide that the scent most closely resembles smoked almonds, which I almost only eat at my family's Holiday party on Christmas Eve. The flavor is also quite smoky, like a smoked pork chop, which I can better enjoy at the beer's warmer temperatures. Also notable is the alcohol note, which perfectly asserts itself without being rambunctious. A slight burn, great flavor and a landscape of a head, this is another excellent brew from Victory.

Aroma is chocolate and barley. Appearance is dark black. Very little head. Taste is bittersweet chocolate. Not much else. Taste is powdery, like the unsweetened Hershey cocoa powder. A tad disappointed."

Dark Brown bordering on black. Pours a generous amount of dark tan head. Smells of roasted malt and chocolate. An alcohol flavor is very apparent but is softened by the cocoa flavorings. The body is exactly what you would expect from a high quality Porter. Never is the cocoa too much to bear, nor does the beer drink like a novelty chocolate ale, but I still might prefer just a tad less of the chocolate flavoring. Though don't get me wrong, I would absolutely drink again.

"Dark, roasted barley. Rich, deep caramel. Decadent, fruit-tinged chocolate. We've unlocked the mysteries and nuances of malts to deliver these luxurious and provocative flavors in this complex and satisfying porter. Raise your glass and taste the Victory of Deep Cocoa!" Brewed in the style of a Baltic Porter, available in 750ml. bottles and on limited draft.
Poured from a 750ml. bottle to a snifter glass.
(Appearance) Pours a deep mocha brown head of a frothy foam consistency over a black body. Retention is average and lacing is light and spotty. 3.75
(Smell) Moderately roasted malts, cocoa nibs, chocolate syrups and undercurrents of molasses. Potency is moderate. 4
(Taste) Roasted barley grains, light caramel syrups, and hints of cocoa with a slight, reserved sweetness. It's enjoyable but fairly shy on the chocolate front, with more earthy, roasted chocolate characters over sweeter, milk chocolate tones, aided by the subtly sweet yet respectable body. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) Texture is smooth, slick, lightly creamy, softly chewy, medium dry. Carbonation is light, generating a medium frothiness and a lightly crisp finish. Body is shy of medium for the style, medium/heavy overall. Balance is nearly even roasty and earthy malt bitterness to sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there no off characters. 4
(Overall) An all-around enjoyable American-style Porter with what appears to be the impression of rich dark chocolate tones, although the chocolate characters are more subtle, earthy and roasted than creamier, sweeter chocolate milk stouts. Enjoyable, but perhaps a bit unwarranted for the 750ml. bottle treatment. This would have been a real hit in a 12 oz. 4 pack. 3.75

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass, with a half finger light brown head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate and a hint of vanilla and coffee. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt with a hint of char, high cacao chocolate, light charred coffee and dark fruit, finishes with char and light hop bitterness. Nice lightly creamy body and mouth feel. A nicely presented chocolate porter that also has coffee notes. The fruit component is very mild, so it has only subtle Baltic porter character, however it has a nice mix of malt, chocolate and coffee flavors to keep things interesting. The bitterness in the end seems like a blend of bitter chocolate, hops and coffee notes, well blended. I liked this quite a bit. I think it's a one-off, but would definitely get it again if it were to be brewed. I was surprised to find this bottle in a cooler at a local bottle shop; I tried to track this down last year when it came out and could not locate a single bottle at any local stores. Beer distribution is too weird.

I enjoyed this on multiple occasions tap and corked and caged bottle -this review with be for the draft version.
The color is dark toffee brown with khaki head. There is sort of biscuit/toast/dark chocolate aroma with mild dried fruit smell perhaps date. The feel is good with a low alcohol influence with moderate sweetness and good amount of carbonation/body.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/9/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, light nuttiness, light smoke/char, light licorice/dark fruit, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa nib, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, light nuttiness, light smoke/char, light licorice/dark fruit, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, fudge, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa nib, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding Baltic porter style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa nib, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Let this one warm up a bit for the cocoa to come through. This one got better as it came to room temperature. A little thin in the body, but otherwise a nice brew.
