The first special in the series, Agave IPA with Grapefruit, will be released on January 1, 2016 and is brewed with four variations of American hops that juxtapose strong and bitter aromas against agave and grapefruit additions to create a light, citric bite. The ale is fresh, crisp and bracing, reminiscent of a ripe, ruby red grapefruit. The sweet agave syrup provides a perfect foil to the tartness of the grapefruit resulting in a juicy winter fruit beer. Agave IPA with Grapefruit is available from January through March '16.

"Best by 5/22/16"; drank 1/23/16 @ the Yarchives.

See-through yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small bright white head; minimal lace.

Grapefruit, honey & dry wheat notes in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel.

Blood orange & grapefruit flavors up front; cloying honey & dry wheat notes on the finish.

Flavorful but way too sweet; interesting but not very enjoyable.

Blackboard Series Agave IPA With Grapefruit brewed by Victory Brewing Company - Downingtown. This American IPA pours out a cloudy amber color with a nice white head. This is an unfiltered IPA, you can not see though it. There is a decent amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of glass well. The smell of Blackboard Series - Agave IPA With Grapefruit is sweet with Hoppy bitterness. The agave and grapefruit really give a nice sweetness aroma to this IPA. There is also some nice earthly grains and malts in the smell of this brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold but smooth with flavors. There is a lot going on in Blackboard Series - Agave IPA With Grapefruit. You first pick up on the nice bitter sweet from the Agave and grapefruit. Then some nice bitterness from hops and ends with some great malts and grains. There is a lot going on in this brew, I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down, it is really hard to pick up on the 7.00% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. The body of this American IPA is soild medium. The mouth feel of Blackboard Series - Agave IPA With Grapefruit, Rich. Bold, clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. This is one fine drinking brew, there is nothing overpowering about this brew, it goes down nice and smooth. Overall I'm giving this brew a 4.50 out of 5. I would definitely buy this brew again. Victory Brewing Company - Downingtown, did a super nice job with this American IPA.

Blackboard Series - Agave IPA With Grapefruit | Victory Brewing Company - Downingtown. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this beer's got a 2 finger thick head, with lateral lacing, and an opaque golden body.

The agave smell isn't too sweet and the juice compliments the hop aroma very nicely.

I taste more of the grapefruit/hop notes with really just a touch of the agave going on. Clean and refreshing.

Medium-light mouthfeel with fair carbonation.

Overall, I'll give Blackboard Series - Agave IPA With Grapefruit | Victory Brewing Company - Downingtown a 4.5.

Pours a hazy, golden color. 5/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of floral hops, citrus hops, slight agave, slight sweet malt, and a hint of alcohol. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of agave, citrus hops, floral hops, slight sweet malt, hint of alcohol, and fruit. Overall, decent appearance, good aroma, body, and blend.

This is a unique and refreshing IPA. It is a hazy yellow, with a tiny bit of fizz. The aroma is a earthy, unusual smell, but not too strong or at all offensive, just interesting.

The taste is obviously enhanced with grapefruit and agave juices. I think enhanced is the right word. It is obviously not a product of the brewing, but the taste and earthy taste is a nice combination with a bitter IPA. The added flavors dominate the finish.

I wouldn't go out of my way to get this, but I would not refuse one either. A nice drink.

Torn on this one. Like the concept (I like sweet and citrusy beers) and enjoyed drinking the beer, but a few of the individual components were disappointing. Look was a very pale gold with minimal head and moderate carbonation. Lots of sugar and grapefruit rind on the nose, nothing really balancing that out, with a little dankness, but also a bit of an unpleasant skankiness (cat pee-ish, Heinekin-ish). Taste is better, but not very complex or layered: very sweet on one side, very bitter on the other. And the two don't really balance each other, more just battle. I like the juicy grapefruit notes, and the overall experience is very crisp and tropical, but a little muddled because of the sweet vs. bitter tugofwar. The feel is very good and much more in keeping with a Victory IPA: medium bodied, sticky, silky, with just the right amount of carbonation. Interesting beer that both hits and misses.

Pours a clear straw yellow with a finger of fuzzy head that settle to a solid cap with traces of lacing. Very faint aroma, mostly citrus, maybe some grape. Oddly sweet, with no hop bitterness. I suspect time has not been kind to this brew. On the thin side.

-Spiegelau ipa glass. Release 01. enjoy by may16. consumed june16.

A: Brassy orange coloring with a good clarity reveals a moderate paced and glass consuming rise of effervesce. 0.25 inch head is slight, milky cream texture, but provides a moderate rate of coverage of dirty dairy coloring. Low lacing dressing.

S: White grapes, tequila like aroma, with a sharp tang of citric fruit, lightly sour, with the agave being forefront. Lightly souring fruit on the trail of moderate strength, short duration.

T: Big tang of agave and citric fruit on the opening tasted. Tequila laced citrus, sour grapefruit peel with musky pine, but very mannered and well blended, with a soft eloquence. Floral hops come on strong, some vinery notes and sour lemon coming of the close. Nice strength level, some malt and sweet syrup like interludes and bittering orange and grapefruit peel to balance on the finish.

M: Crisp mouthful, light syrupy feel, good initial impression of carbonation turns to a soft syrupy and creamy finish off the tongue.

O: Overall the agave makes a perfect companion for this drink, dealing an unique flavor and impression for first time consumption, not sure how many thereafter i could handle, but if it is a agave like unique beer drinking experience you are looking for, clean, then give this a try. Warming tequila and flower hops come on the finish and lingers a bit on the tongue.
