I have to start off saying, this bottle is a month past the "expiration date" (1/27/11) but I figured thats more of a CYA/Bottle Date kind of thing. BA says Baltic Porters can be cellared, and a Victory rep said the age should have a positive effect on it. I would like to try a younger version to compare.
Appearance: Dark reddish brown, very clear. Minimal head, no lacing.
Smell: Light roasted coffee, hints of roasted malty goodness, hints of smokiness.
Taste: Light roasted coffee, roasted malt, some malty sweetness. Some smokiness, some toffee notes, some dark chocolate. Some bitterness, but only really enough to keep it balanced.
Mouthfeel: Very light carbonation, feels appropriate. Somewhat thick.
Drinkability: Goes down easy, hides the abv. Enjoyable.
Overall: Quite good, very complex. It seems like all of the flavors have married well. I wish there were more Baltic Porters available so I can compare and see how this falls within the style.
