Poured into my faithful pint glass, this beer produced a three finger head over a clear, deep red-brown body. The head retention was pretty good, which made me look forward to the experience.
Aroma was of plums, roasted malts, burnt caramel, coffee, and hints of chocolate. Complex, layered, and good.
Fruitiness was not discernable in the taste, however. I got roasted malt at first, followed by burnt barley, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Better than average, but a slight letdown given the aroma.
This beer had a good body, not too thin but not oppressively thick or syrupy either. Better than average mouthfeel for a porter.
I would rate the drinkability of this beer as pretty good. I wouldn't mind having it again, and it was an enjoyable exploration of the style. A good beer to use as an introduction to porters.
