22 oz. bottle.
Poured fizzy with no head or lacing. Cola-like, nearly. Well, it gets a bit better on the second pour, but it does dissipate quickly. Looks black in the glass but has reddish hues around the edges.
Molasses, juicy dark fruit. Plums, berries, syrupy sweet. Prune. More of that than chocolate or coffee. Pretty strong aroma.
This is a pretty good approximation of what the Polish brewers are doing. Big and richly sweet like molasses, with a little dry chocolate to balance it. Very strong flavor, like biting into a juicy red plum. Hopping is very light in the back end, merging with roasted malt for a slightly bitter finish. A hint of smoke and earthiness in the malt and finish.
Thick and a little syrupy. Definitely has the body to match 8.5%. This one actually hides the booze a bit better than some of the Polish examples.
I like Okocim Porter best, but this is pretty good. The style is still pretty rare, so if I had a craving for one I'd give this another go. One problem is that it's a little cloying and a bomber feels like a lot of this. It really lays everything out there. I had my review 90% done after four ounces.
