22 oz. into a pint glass
P: Deep walnut brown with a light brown head of tight, soapy foam. Showed decent retention then sank to form a thin halo on top with some spotty lace left behind.
A: Light roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and some dark fruits with a puff of smoke. Nothing real special going on here, but it smells good enough.
T: Malts feel soft and delicately roasted, offering just enough roundness and depth to get the job done. Chocolate notes mingle with some toffee, caramel, and a light coffee presence upfront, while dark fruits come out more on the back end. Herbal hops lay low but they do provide enough bitterness to give the illusion of balance, but doesn't come close to taking the spotlight off of the sweets.
M: Baltic Thunder is a medium-full bodied brew, maybe leaning a little more toward the former as I continue to swish it around. It does offer a pretty smooth, creamy feel that gives you a smidgen of chewiness for good measure. A little more heft to the body feels like it could do wonders, though.
Notes: This is a pretty solid Baltic Porter that went down really easily. Is it a world class effort? No. But for $5.99 a bottle you really can't go wrong if you're looking for an easy drinking, full-flavored porter. Just don't expect to have your socks knocked off and you'll be satisfied. Solid
