Sorry to hate on Victory, I like Victory brews but... I just had Saison-Brett which is by far the best Brett beer I've had.

Poured into NB Snifter via Baltimore.

A - Darker than expected, with thick foamy head.
S - Funky Belgian with some hops.
T - Grassy hops, Dry Tripel-like (but for 6.7% I expect wet), Brett funk.
M/D - Good carbonation but a little hard to get down.

Edited to bring this below the B average. The guy who just reviewed above me said he couldn't finish the bottle and neither could I. How do you give a beer a B- when you can't drink it.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 750 mL bottle into a Peg's snifter.

A: Pours a clear copper, average carbonation. Forms a big fluffy white head with good retention.

S: Musty Brett funk, light lemony citric tang, resinous hops and light bready malts.

T: Brett barnyard musk and a bit of dishwater character. Spice, melon, and citrus hops, but hop presence is lower than expected. Toasted bready malts and some horseblanket round things out. Dry with a light hop bitterness on the finish.

M: Medium body, carbonation sensation on the low side, and the alcohol is fairly well-hidden.

O: This beer seems to hit some right notes, but there are misses too. Primarily, it needs more hops and/or funk. I feel like in order to make it easier to drink, it sacrificed the good flavors it should have had - just seems a bit middle of the road.

A-nice amber color with a large white head and decent lacing

S-citrus, orange, Brett, caramel malt, some pine

T-caramel malt, orange, light lemon, brett, pine, floral, hint grassy, mild to moderate bitter finish

F-medium body with moderate carbonation, smooth

750ml bottle purchased at Shadyside Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh, PA on 6/9/14. Poured into tulip glass.

A - Semi-bright, dark copper/amber hue. Creamy head on pour, dissipates slowly with heavy lacing.

S - Citrus and sweet tart notes indicate the presence of both the hops and brett while a nice malt base keeps things grounded.

T - Tart chalkiness overrides the malt base, hops poke through and help to build a dry finish with an off twang of brett. Pretty interesting transformation of Hop Devil, makes me want to pick up a bottle of Hop Devil to remind myself where this started.

M - Carbonation keeps the malt and brett light and fluid, finish is a little too drying for my tastes.

O - Interesting tasting beer with fantastic interplay between the malt, hops, and brett upfront, but the lingering aftertaste of hoppy brett is not great. Makes me want to compare to the original for kicks. Would be interesting to hold on for one a little longer as this bottle was only 1 month old.

Bottle purchased from Nathaniel Square Corner Store.

Pours a rusty looking amber, with a towering, 4-5 inch head that dissipates in a few minutes, Fairly decent spidery lacing down the glass.

Smells like some vestige of Hop Devil- fairly earthy and spicy, with a good portion of sweet malt aromas, along with funky Brett aromas that bring to mind Sweet Tarts or Smarties.

The sweet chalkiness continues in the flavor, and is honestly really nice. Spicey and herbal hops are prominent, showing the untamed Hop Devil is still somewhere back behind the Brett assault. The Brett also lends some juicy sweetness as well. As it warms up, the bitterness becomes a little more pronounced.

Medium bodied, funky, bitter and dry mouthfeel- slightly creamy. There is a low level of carbonation.

This is very solid. It's much closer to a hoppy American wild ale than a Brett IPA- as the Brett completely takes over the proceedings, and leaves Hop Devil wimpering in the corner.
