22oz Corked Bomber

A: Cloudy yellow, dark, yeasty. HUGE Foamy head. It was a gusher after I popped the cork overflowing all over the counter.

S; Very Belgian brett funk, slightly Hoppy.

T: Earthy, mild bitterness. I like more hop bite and sweetness from an IPA, and the belgian yeast seems to cut down on that.

M: Smooth

D: Not what I expected. Leans more toward a Belgian and it's not my favorite style.

750ml bottle purchased at Shadyside Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh, PA on 6/9/14. Poured into tulip glass.

A - Semi-bright, dark copper/amber hue. Creamy head on pour, dissipates slowly with heavy lacing.

S - Citrus and sweet tart notes indicate the presence of both the hops and brett while a nice malt base keeps things grounded.

T - Tart chalkiness overrides the malt base, hops poke through and help to build a dry finish with an off twang of brett. Pretty interesting transformation of Hop Devil, makes me want to pick up a bottle of Hop Devil to remind myself where this started.

M - Carbonation keeps the malt and brett light and fluid, finish is a little too drying for my tastes.

O - Interesting tasting beer with fantastic interplay between the malt, hops, and brett upfront, but the lingering aftertaste of hoppy brett is not great. Makes me want to compare to the original for kicks. Would be interesting to hold on for one a little longer as this bottle was only 1 month old.

Bottle purchased from Nathaniel Square Corner Store.

Pours a rusty looking amber, with a towering, 4-5 inch head that dissipates in a few minutes, Fairly decent spidery lacing down the glass.

Smells like some vestige of Hop Devil- fairly earthy and spicy, with a good portion of sweet malt aromas, along with funky Brett aromas that bring to mind Sweet Tarts or Smarties.

The sweet chalkiness continues in the flavor, and is honestly really nice. Spicey and herbal hops are prominent, showing the untamed Hop Devil is still somewhere back behind the Brett assault. The Brett also lends some juicy sweetness as well. As it warms up, the bitterness becomes a little more pronounced.

Medium bodied, funky, bitter and dry mouthfeel- slightly creamy. There is a low level of carbonation.

This is very solid. It's much closer to a hoppy American wild ale than a Brett IPA- as the Brett completely takes over the proceedings, and leaves Hop Devil wimpering in the corner.

Great looking beer- deep copper color with a thick marshmallowy head. The nose is intense and perfumy, like a fresh bouquet of flowers. Wow- the brett and base beer work so well together. There are also tangerine peel and pine notes. Slight graham cracker and caramel round it all out. Mostly it's the floral brett that dominates the nose, though. The palate is freakin' gorgeous- so Goddamn smooth and velvety- this time it's more earthy, but the floral overtones are still there. The brett lingers for a bit, but then gives way to a long lasting toasty finish, maybe with a hint of leather. Well done, Victory- maybe not as complex as something like Bitter Monk, but this has such a comfortable, worn-in feel that shows that you've done it well in your own way.

Bottled On 11 JUN 2014

A: Pours a nice amber color with 2+ fingers of head that slowly settles down to a frothy cap that leaves decent lacing

S: A bit of the Brett to start things off, along with a nice fruitiness and some citrus and piney hops. Some lightly sweet malts also balance things out a little

T: Starts off with some lightly funky Brett that imparts some leathery notes as well as some fruitiness and other complexities. Some piney and citrusy hops come in next, along with the lightly sweet maltiness. Finishes with a light, lingering bitterness and a bit more Brett character

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A nice Brett-influenced IPA with a decent amount of Brett character from the get-go. The hops get a little muted, but Hop Devil isn't insanely hoppy to begin with so it's not a problem. Definitely a candidate for aging and seeing how the Brett influences the beer. Certainly worth picking up a few, especially when it's under $8 for 750 mL
