Corked and caged 750ml bottle poured into a Portsmouth goblet. Bottled on March 3, 2009
A - Pours a cloudy, yeasty looking amber color with a full 4 fingers of off-white, yellowish foam. The head really has some staying power too - takes a good couple of minutes to die down to the point of drinkability.
S - A little bit sugary sweet, lots of spicyness, phenolic - bandaids, horse blanket, other barnyard-like aromas, sourness...very complex and funky.
T - Phenolic, spicy, hoppy. Very dry. Bitter hops, no hop flavor. Lots of funky barnyard flavors here. How these flavors combine is a little different from other wild ales I've had. The hoppiness of this one seems to put an edge on the funky flavors. Gives a different kind of sharpness to them.
M - Medium body, tons of carbonation...extremely vigorous bubbliness, almost creates foam in your mouth as you drink. Bitterness lingers and hangs on well past the swallow.
D - Pretty interesting beer...not sure I could have a lot of this...one 750ml by myself is going to do me I think. Lots of complexity and distinctive flavoring. Quite interesting, but hardly sessionable, where other sours/wild ales are more palatable in larger quantities.
Had one of these right when they came out in March '09 and wasn't particularly impressed. After a few months of maturation in the bottle, this has taken on some more character and has become more interesting. Think I might hold on to a bottle or two for a while and see how they progress after a few more months.

Bottled in 2009 and held by brewery and re-distributed, then bought in 2014. Amber/orange.
A- Pours the biggest bubbly foam head I've ever seen right out of the bottle.
S- Yeasty and sour. hoppy too. candied oranges. Wild.
T- Similar to the smell really. Some sour notes from the yeast action. The hops has really mellowed out. I hope others review this delayed/aged re-release because I don't think I'm doing it justice with this review. But it's a pretty exciting/interesting beer.
M- Very bubbly and fizzy in the mouth.
O- I thought about getting some hop devil (which I haven't had yet, though I loved V's Hop Fresh) to taste alongside this one but this beer stands on its own as completely unique from the original Hop Devil. It is indeed wild, and I'm glad I tried it.
