Great looking beer- deep copper color with a thick marshmallowy head. The nose is intense and perfumy, like a fresh bouquet of flowers. Wow- the brett and base beer work so well together. There are also tangerine peel and pine notes. Slight graham cracker and caramel round it all out. Mostly it's the floral brett that dominates the nose, though. The palate is freakin' gorgeous- so Goddamn smooth and velvety- this time it's more earthy, but the floral overtones are still there. The brett lingers for a bit, but then gives way to a long lasting toasty finish, maybe with a hint of leather. Well done, Victory- maybe not as complex as something like Bitter Monk, but this has such a comfortable, worn-in feel that shows that you've done it well in your own way.

Bottled On 11 JUN 2014

A: Pours a nice amber color with 2+ fingers of head that slowly settles down to a frothy cap that leaves decent lacing

S: A bit of the Brett to start things off, along with a nice fruitiness and some citrus and piney hops. Some lightly sweet malts also balance things out a little

T: Starts off with some lightly funky Brett that imparts some leathery notes as well as some fruitiness and other complexities. Some piney and citrusy hops come in next, along with the lightly sweet maltiness. Finishes with a light, lingering bitterness and a bit more Brett character

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A nice Brett-influenced IPA with a decent amount of Brett character from the get-go. The hops get a little muted, but Hop Devil isn't insanely hoppy to begin with so it's not a problem. Definitely a candidate for aging and seeing how the Brett influences the beer. Certainly worth picking up a few, especially when it's under $8 for 750 mL

Poured from a corked and caged bottle into a nonic pint glass. This bottle I have been aging for almost 9 months.

A: A medium brownish color with a hint of burnt orange and a huge huge billowy off white head. The head stands tall and leaves chunky lacing as it eventually recedes. Seems a bit overcarbonated.

S: Wow, so the aging really allows the brett to fully develop. Heavy smells of must, horse blanket and yeast with some citrus and pine hops qualities.

T: Follow the nose. The aging really allows the brett to develop to bring heavily forward the yeasty musty, horse blanket, wet straw flavors that are coupled with the bready slightly sweet malt character. The herbal, citrus and slight piney hops poke through at the end to leave the bitterness in your mouth. Wow, this beer is a different monster with age on it, the brett really comes out in a huge way.

M: Medium, coating, a bit spicy and no alcohol flavor. As I said earlier, a bit overcarbonated I think.

D: High, very enjoyable beer.

Overall if you get a chance to age this beer and you really like brett, do it. This is significantly a different beer than when fresh as the brett really works into the flavor. Still I really enjoyed it, kudos to Victory.

Updated June 2014 with the newest batch. After being on hiatus for the past couple of years, Wild Devil is back and back in a big way.

Corked and caged 750 which yielded the following. The brett really seems way more prominent early on with this batch. This beer is fresh and the brett really is already very prominent. Fantastic beer that I just wish they made all the time. I'll be picking up a bunch more bottles before this goes on hiatus again. Fantastic.

Pours a beautiful firey copper orange with some golden yellow hues. A fat head of very off white foam that lasts and leaves lace . A few bubble making their way to the top amid perfect clarity. Nose is powerful and funky. Citric tartness and citrus zest. A lovely perfumey and powdery hop flora. A bit of earth, some sweet bread for malt and a delightful bit of orange that is subtle but not to be denied. Drinks gracefully with all the flavors coming together balanced and with a kind of panache. The orange is juicy and a bit subtle. There is grapefruit peel and tart citrus. The yeast is earthy and funky and dry. The hop floral translates into the drink and as it warms a bit of spice comes through on the nose and on the palate.

The mouthfeel on this one is creamy and and with a bit of softness underlies a powerful collection of earthy and funky flavor with some fruit and a soft breaddy sweetness that keeps you going back for more as a sharp bitter finishes this one dry.
