Bottled on: 6/11/14.

Pours a murky dark orange with a super foamy tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thick swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, tropical fruit, earth, and Brett aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, tropical fruit, funk, and Brett flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of Brett bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice balance of tropical fruit and Brett characteristics all around.

Serving type: bottle.

3-month old bottle. Copper-colored, no difference from HopDevil. More vigorously carbonated and fizzy, though, with good head retention. The sticky foam leaves some nice lacing. Hop aromas are relatively muted, replaced by contributions from the Brett. Much more earthy and a bit musty. More notes of lemon and lemongrass rather than the citric, grapefruity character of HopDevil. Smells like a Belgian IPA.

A solid hop bitterness on the palate that lingers a bit, true to the base beer. Leathery, kind of funky flavor notes. More aging would likely allow even more character to develop. As-is, it's bitter at first then malty/funky flavors abruptly join in. Well worth a try, and it stands out more among its peers compared with HopDevil.
