Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.
A - Dark, deep, clear red hue with a healthy 2 fingers of tan head that leaves good lacing.
S - Candied fruits and light citrus with slight hints of fusel alcohol and dark sugary malts as it warms. Very enticing.
T - Right up front, an intense earthy hop bitterness followed by malty sweetness and extremely bitter dark chocolate. The dark malts leave a very dry, roasty lingering bitterness on the end. Alcohol is present but well masked, even though it emerges more as it warms.
M - Medium bodied with good carbonation.
O - Very happy with this beer. I actually had it on tap prior to this review and did not enjoy it. Perhaps it was due to poor tap line maintenance, storage or the multiple beers I had prior. Anyway, I'm much more pleased with the bottle presentation. A complex blend of hoppiness and dark malts without trying to overpower the drinker with West Coast hops. Very strong from start to finish.
