This is my very first Victory beer. I've seen them often but haven't given them a chance.
Pours a beautiful mahogany red in my tulip glass surmounted by a ivory colored cap with huge retention and lacing. The lacing reminds me of Arrogant Bastard, just sticks around forever.
Aroma is crisp, pine, dark citrus, and above all, hops. The malt composition really makes this beer shine. I pick up scents of caramel, candied sugar, and a light twang of brown sugar. Looks promising with big hops and big malts.
Flavor is pretty jam packed, and all over the place. Malty sweetness of caramel and burnt grians gives way to bitterness, pine, and a dry side of hops. Finish is long and strong, must be the dryness attributing to that. Overall, not bad at all. Its got alot to offer for drinkers who want malts and hops.
Mouthfeel is slightly below par. Good, but could be just a bit stronger. But for a session beer, it is good.
The alcohol is hidden at the back end with its dry finish hiding the burn, but is still a damn good beer to enjoy. It's really hard to pick up the 8.7% ABV.
