12oz brown bottle poured into a pint glass.
The color of this beer is a reddish brown. Dark with ruby highlights, but light enough and clear enough that you can see the bubbles rising to the top if you hold the glass up to the light. The top has a fairly nice 2-finger tan head, that dies down to a foam cap somewhat quickly, but leaves behind some very good lace.
There is some sweet malt and plenty of citrusy hops in this aroma. Roasted malt, grapefruit, and sweet (almost cake-like) bread.
A creamy, medium body that packs a lot of different flavors. There is some up-front earthy and citrusy hops, but it's quickly joined by malty flavors of burnt caramel, tobacco, and chocolate. It balances out very well in the middle and then the grapefruit and chocolate take up the finish. Many of the flavors are a bit difficult to detect until after the beer has been swallowed. Very complex and very tasty.
I definitely recommend this one. If I had known it was a seasonal I would have bought more.
