Finally got to try this after 3 misses due to victory selling out before i got around to making the 20 minute journey to the brewery.
Appearance is very unexpected compared to the smell. Pours a mucky dark brown like a brown ale or doppelbock, but the smell is definitly DIPA.
The taste is very interesting. An IPA with similar bitterness characteristics to their hop wallop, but also roasty flavors of a stout or porter. Not quite as big or in your face as a barleywine in terms of flavors or ABV (ABV of this batch listed at 8.4%).
Drinkability is alright, but certainly more of a sipper. The initial taste is hoppy with the finish being very dry with dark stouty malt.
Definitly an interesting beer, a dark-DIPA. I would probably get this again the next time its available if nothing new strikes my fancy.

A: Dark brown, almost black with a creamy mocha head.
S: Pine, floral notes, kiwi and citrus in the nose.
T: Kiwi, grapefruit peel, citrus peel, citrus, lemon and grass, followed by roasted malt, espresso and coffee. Pretty much what you want out of the style, but perhaps not the best fruit flavor profile.
M: Full bodied and creamy smooth.
O: I'd prefer tangerine, mango, fresh orange, pineapple, papaya, passionfruit, tropical fruit, etc. mixed with the roasty flavors, but this is still a great beer. I'd definitely recommend it, if you like the black ale style.
