On tap at Doherty's in Pawtucket RI
A - Deep brown with a reddish tint. Big tan head that lasts. Tons of lacing.
S - Malty/hoppy mix-up. Piney, resin, Little cat urine smell
T - Bitter up front, sweet malt follows. I get some licorice as well. Pine. Tart fruit. Lingering bitter aftertaste.
M/F -Active carbonation but fairly fine in structure. Quite nice that way. Medium body...rather filling like.
D - Looks wonderful and feels wonderful in the mouth but the raw bitterness doesn't match the elegance in it's framework.

Transparent garnet in color with a two finger head of tight fluffy suds that leave tons of lace all over the glass.

Complex scents of sweet bread, bright citric hops, prune and dark berries.

Lots of unsweetened bitter hops. Dark malts, notes of coffee and plenty of grapefruit peel. Some warm alcohol is present. I guess this fits as a hopped up strong ale. I think some age will smooth out the flavor and mellow the extreme bitterness of the hops.

Smooth, slightly creamy carbonation, close to full bodied, pretty bitter on the tongue. Extremely dry on the finish.

Pretty strong in alcohol and especially in the hop department. I'm a hop head, but one of these is enough. I think some age on this will be very positive. Unique beer that's worth a try.

Looks like the sunset on the label, orange and brown. Caramel smell.

Taste, hoppy, nice. Thick dark texture plays well with the hops. Very nice to see a beer like this stay crisp and hoppy instead of getting bogged down in alcohol and malt heft, yet stay complex enough with what expect are some chocolate malt and molasses or honey. Any fan of hoppy barleywines should check this out, not quite as sweet, almost as strong as a barleywine.

Defintely better than expectations, victory always seems to be a little underwhelming in the hop department, but this was just right.

Deep orange approaching red on the color wheel. The head is here and then gone to fast for my taste. What I saw of it was tan and sudsy looking. I love the rich color of this beer. Yakima glory is like staring at a fire or a fine stone. Hours visual entertainment.

The nose is mild for an IPA. I get more warm malts then sharp hops. They are there but not as present as the grain bill and in any kind of IPA I expect them to be up front.

Taste is like the nose with a more malt presence then a hop one. Sweet and slightly nutty and then the flavor transitions into a hop punch. It appears more in the form of a bitterness rather then a citrus, piney, tropical fruit flavor that I really like in an IPA. There are little pieces of citrus but mild ones. All in all a tasty beverage. I'm not mad at the lack of hops, i still find this one very interesting to drink.

The mouthfeel is the best part of this beer in my opinion. I love how the malts start out the slick feel and moves quickly into a swelling bitterness. That bitter pinch lasts into and through the finish lingering the perfect amount. A great, easy drinking beer.

Pours out a hazy dark amber beer with a big fluffy tan head. Smells of a big malty backbone followed by hints of hops. I really dont smell much in the way of hops in this beer. Still it smells damn good. Moderately bitter not much sweetness, semi dry with a slight hint of coffee. Alcohol hidden well. Nice mouthfeel.
Mildly drinkable beer, tiny bit too much bite for me.

Pours a crystal clear ruby brown color with a big tan head that left a sheet of lacing as it dissipated. Big aroma of citrus hop; nice juicy grapefruit profile with a touch of a toasted malt. The taste is of resiny, piney hops with some citrus notes. A toasted bready malt supports the big bitter hop profile. There are some hints of chocolate in the malt as well. The brew has a moderate body with fairly soft carbonation that leads to a silky feel; finishes with quite a bitter asprin blast which is a little rough for my liking. A tasty DIPA for sure, big hop profile. To me the malt was there for color as it didn't really help smooth out the hoppy bitterness. Most will like this but the finish hurts the drinkability for me.

A beauty.

Pours a deep, dark, rich, crystal clear garnet hue with a fluffy three+ fingers of head into my Spiegalau tulip. Retention and lacing are superb. It's a joy to look at.

Aromas are mildly sweet, citrus and grapefruit hop with a hint of resin.

On the palate this is exceedingly bitter at fridge temp... it really needs to open up and be consumed at warmer temperatures, which allows some dark caramel sweetness to liven things up. There's a note of roast, but nothing approaching what you'd get in a stout. It's neither the IPA in disguise that is Sublimely Self-Righteous nor the Porter with extra hops that is Alpha Klaus... it's its own beast. Think along the lines of Arrogant Bastard without the malt complexity.

Mouthfeel is a solid medium towards full, rich mid palate but with an easy lift (helped by the assertive bitterness).

It masks alcohol well, but it never quite coalesces into anything particularly remarkable.

App - Deep amber color, brilliantly clear. Pours a creamy white head of good size, moderately good retention.

Aroma - A complicated blend of some dark malt sweetness, a bit chocolatey, and piney hops.

Taste - Some chocolate and bitterness early (bitterness from grain or hops?) Hop flavor there, but overpowered somewhat by everything else that is happening. More sharply bitter in the finish than would have anticipated. Flavor profile is almost like Storm King - potent to the point of being overpowering.

MF - Medium body and carbonation, hops aren't quite astringent, but also not super pleasant on the tongue. Very slight alcohol warming - alcohol character well controlled considering the strength of the beer.

Overall - Ultimately didn't like it nearly as much as I expected to based solely on its appearance and aroma. More complicated than some Black Ales or Black IPAs, which seem like conventional hoppy beers with dark food coloring added. Here the dark malts add character and complexity, but in doing so detracts from the hops.
