An ale to showcase an ingredient most revere,
with a spread of fine aromatics to trigger memory fine,
A deep brown pour a reddish tinge quite a leer,
robust head with many a frothy line.

An ode to flora and conifers abound
but the voice of sweet malt craves attention as well,
and with some warmth the malt aroma is found,
some earthy resin stops by but now for the taste I must tell.

A surge of bitter like hitting a wall that does not give,
thankfully sweet from roasted malts and caramel pad the blow,
A slap of the tongue the bitter aftertaste must live,
with only the faintest warmth at the end of the swallow.

A creamy delight that on the tongue plays it slick,
a light/medium body that makes you crave for a sip.
Malt and hops alternating solos ah what a delicious trick,
such a fine subtle balance worthy of another dip.

Appearance: Pours a clear burnt caramel color with a two finger head; good stickage and quite a bit of lace sticks to the sides of the pint glass

Smell: Crusty bread, caramel and piney hops

Taste: Opens with a rich, bready flavor that adds caramel and lots of piney hops by mid-palate, with hints of mint and chocolate lingering around; after the swallow, the malt backbone becomes increasingly apparent, providing additional chocolate, caramel and leathery earthy tones to match the hop bill

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: I like this much better than Arrogant Bastard as it is not as sticky but has a great flavor profile

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

Pours a reddish-brown amber with a fluffy, ecru cap that rose to fill the snifter and settle to a thin collar. Some spider web lacing hangs to the inside of the glass.

The aroma is sweet and bitter. Candied grapefruit and pine needles with some sticky caramel. This guy smells like a welcome addition to the victory lineup.

Sweet, sticky caramel, candied grapefruit, pineapple, and pine resin. Bitter in the finish, sweet and sticky up front. A sturdy beer with a heavy handed dose of bitter. The sweetness up front really take away from how bitter this is. A more balanced interpretation.

Medium bodied, chewy. Big, sticky resinous mouthfeel.

Scary how hidden the alcohol is in this guy. I really liked this beer and therefore found it very easy to drink. I'd like to think this is more of a DIPA than anything else. Think Hop Wallop's more balanced younger brother.

12oz bottle served in a glass beer mug.

Beautiful reddish/brown color with a good sized tan head that left a coating of sticky lacing.
The aroma is piney hops and sourdough bread.
Plenty of piney hops hit upfront with enough balance of roasted malt although it never gets sweet finishing dry and espresso-like bitter. Alcohol is never noticable, even as it warms up.
Medium bodied with a smooth feel.
Good drinkability despite the higher abv, a very tasty brew.
