Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a dark red, almost black, with little head. Smell of fruits with a hint of alcohol, almost like a barleywine. Tastes more like a barleywine than a dark IPA at first, but has a good hoppy aftertaste. Goes down pretty well for a high ABV beer, although it is more of a sipper than a session. Overall, a very fine beer.

A: a medium brown hue. head is rich and almost stout-like. retention is reasonable and the lacing is thick and sticky. also stout-like. wouldnt say it is a 'black' IPA, but certainly a dark brown IPA.

S: a blast of upfront, in your face, american grown hops. there is a very grainy, very toasty aspect in there as well, but this one is all about the hops.

T: the flavors on this thing are so much closer to a big AIPA than an black IPA. the hops are very much at the forefront of the palate and while yes, there is some roasted grain in there, it is not nearly as intense as your average black IPA.

M: moderate carbonation on a brew that is dancing on the line of medium and full bodied.

D: like i said in appearance, i wouldnt classify this as an american black as much as i would call it a very hoppy american brown ale. the hops are so refreshing and drinkable and with the roasted backdrop there is a really nice added dimension that gives this brew some depth. well done victory.

The fun is in the name with this one. I like this Vicotry product probably because its one of their highest ABVs. This sounds like a Japanese Kamakaze pilot beer.

I had this a few times but this particular review is out of a bottle. Nut brown in color. Hazelnut fragerance. A lot of head when poured.

A black ale but has hops and floral undertones in boquet. You can barely see through this beer when held to light. Not very bubbly. Bitter upon tasting with some chocolate taste.

Having on draft at the Union Brewhouse. Beer was poured into a goblet.

Appearance: Slight head, a deep mahogany crimson red with a little clarity and no signs of carbonation. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: mocha, sweet malts, and pine. Interesting mix. Hmmmm. Hoppy black ale. This explains things.

Taste: pine, mocha, and subtle bitterness. A little biscuit and sweet malts too.

Mouthfeel: smooth, medium bodied, medium carbonation, interestingly delicious.

Overall: Probably the most interesting hoppy black ale I have had yet. Will be getting mote of this in the future.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a mug. Best by date: November 8, 2012.

A-Dark reddish brown with a light tan head. Almost looks like root beer. Dark and lovely.

S-Hops right away for me. Malty aroma.

T-Immediate hops up front. Perfect amount of aggressiveness. Grapefruit-citrus and something like dry fruits in the finish. Very nice for when the winter months come on.

M-Nice smooth malts then slam into overdrive with the hops. It's like a tennis match back and forth between the 2.

O-I love this beer. I can definitely go for more of this one! I think this is a big win for Victory.

Dark amber with beige lumpu head that holds, rims and leaves good lacey rings. Gooey resiny orange nose and maybe a hint of chocolate.
Milk chocolate and nectarine jam with fresh leaf hop, a bit of citrus, plus herbal and funkiness that cloys as it warms.
Compote end and cherry skin bitter linger. Medium to full, chewy, sticky, a bit of oil, slight burn.

Tastes like wet hop, and a funky one at that. But it degrades into something like bad homebrew – the dangers of over dry-hopping, I think. Too harsh, I don’t get the balance everyone else mentions and not dark enough to be a CDA.

A mess, and a surprise coming from Victory.

A: Pours a brilliant and dense mahogany brown body with lighter reddish brown highlights. One finger tan head is rich and dense and fades to a thick crown.

S: Syrup sweet with intense pine notes followed by candied grapefruit , maple syrup, yams and brown sugar, even a little bit of roasted chestnut

T: Potent pine flavors interweave with an alcoholic bite up front. Pecan pie malts mesh with a flavor reminiscent of candied sugar. Not a lot going on, but what is going on, there is a lot of it.

M: Solid medium body with a dry finish.

O: This is a heavy winter malt bomb with West Coast hop warhead.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear brown with a hint of red hue, with a two-finger tan-white head that leaves nice lacing down the glass as I drink.

Smell: It's very hoppy, but there is also a distinct smell of malts, although the scent of these malts is light. I also smell some fruityness.

Taste: This is damn good. It starts with a very floral hops geared flavor, with citrus and fruity flavors mixed in, and a malty finish, and all-the-while there is a mild bitterness throughout, from start to finish. The bitterness is very nice and not cloying at all. My only qualm is that the backbone also has a bit of a soapy taste to it. Booze taste is minor.

Mouthfeel: Moderate to heavy body and light carbonation. It's smooth and a little bit creamy as well.

Overall: An awesome and complex beer that I will sample for winters to come.
