On-tap poured into 14oz glass.

A - Red copper look, slightly murky with good amount of head and slight lacing.

S - Sweet caramel with some malts and fruits.

T - Slightly sweet with hint of caramel and fruits just like the smell.

M - Medium body, overall very smooth.

D - Very good for a dubbel.

A- Poured from the tap with a nice rocky white head, which quickly receded to give way to some fantastic lacing... the body was a bright dark amber, and displayed some fine carbonation.

S- The nose fits the style well enough... lots of burnt candy sugar here, caramel malt and Belgian yeast. The nose also seems a bit crackerlike, and exhibits hints of stale hops.

T- The promise of the nose is truly delivered here in the taste: burnt candy sugar, caramel malt, Belgian yeast and stale hops. The finish seems very dry for the style.

M- This beer seems over-attenuated for the style, which resulted in the dry finish mentioned above, and also resulted in a thin body. Carbonation is adequate.

D- Is this drinkable? Of course... some of this beer's shortcomings actually make this MORE drinkable than other Belgian doubles...

A-Reddish brown with some ruby highlights. A thin, off-white head hangs on fairly well and leaves spotty lace.

S-Light sweet caramel and biscuit malt with a touch of raisin,pear and spicy yeast.

T-Caramel malt sweetness, dried out with notes of prune, raisin and pear. Lesser notes of sweet biscuit and a touch of butterscotch.

M-Medium bodied, slightly sticky with a drying finish. Good lingering flavours.

D-Well done. Certainly not the best dubbel I have had but this one is true to style and tasty enough to hold it's own.

A - Poured with a half-finger of slightly off-white head; deep coppery brown color; sorta murky; OK head retention and lacing

S - Very muted overall; lightly sweet dark fruit aromas...really just not much going on

T - Like the nose, pretty muted; some plums and darker fruits; touch malty. Not bad stuff, just needed something more...

M - Medium to thinner body; very subtle carbonation and a little silky on the palate

D - Not bad given that it's a Dubbel with a relatively lower abv; no off-flavors, but not terribly interesting either

Overall, not the best example of the style, but an OK brew. Worth a look, but I wouldn't rush after this.

I got this tap filled bottle from Nutbrown in a trade. Thanks Alan!

A nice pop and hiss greeted me when I opened the swingtop on the GT Cellar Reserve bottle.

It pours a clear ruby red with about a 2 finger head of foam.

The smell has some caramel malt, biscuits, some fruit and some spicy notes.

The taste is of caramel and biscuit, dark fruit like raisins...maybe plum, and spice. The alcohol is very up there to me so very small sips are in order. Hmmm..not a bad taster but it doesn't hit my palate the way I want it to.

The mouthfeel is very thin for the style and the carbonation is about medium.

Drinkability? Not so good. The taste isn't bad but the mouthfeel and intrusive alcohol stop me from enjoying it more. Still, I'm glad for the chance to try it and Alan always seems to find little known or tried beers and lots of them are tap poured. I love it.

On tap at The Ginger Man. A Belgian strong with an amber brown body. Average Belgian,carmelized malts, some spice, not too sweet, decent beer. Not extraordinary. A bit of yeast aroma, a bit above average mouthfeel. OK drinkability, maybe on another day.

I had this on-tap at the Victory Brewery and Restaurant in Downingtown, PA.
Appearance: The body is an amber color. The head is three fingers tall, egg shell, big sized bubbles, great retention and thick lacing.
Smell: The aromas are spargy, bready and yeasty.
Taste: The flavors are piney, citrus and bready.
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is very crisp.
Drinkability: This is a drinkable beer.
Don't drink and review.

Appears a dark amber, nearing brown with a small, off white head that slowly fades into a mild head. Scattered bits of lacing are left around the glass. Steady streams of CO2 quickly rise to the top.
Smell is of sugary caramel, biscuits, freshly baked bread, and raisin sweetness.
Taste of doughy, grainy, caramel drenched raisins.
Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, sugary, slightly peppery, with a lip smacking, sweet finish.

On-tap at the brewery

A ruby infused brown body with a thin, off-white cap. Perfectly clear with minimal carbonation. Not your typical muddled deep brown body. This is a clear, bright beer.

Aroma was a little faint, but was primarily of caramel malt, biscuits, raisins/prunes, apples, and belgian yeast.

Flavor is more of the same. Caramel, raisins, plums, apples, toffee, biscuit, rock sugar and a slightly sweet finish.

Medium bodied, slightly sticky, resiny finish.

Highly drinkable. A very bright beer. No off-flavors, clean and well-represented.
