Pours a deep brown to black in color with an off white-ish head. In the aroma, light pilsner like, with a note of roast. In the taste, a small smoke presence, roasty, and a dryer malt. A small bite, but mainly smooth, with a lighter bodied mouthfeel, and a small dry and smokey lager like aftertaste. Lager with a smokey roast, I can dig it!

Victory Brewing
Schwarz Pils

Pours a clear dark brown. Off white head with good lacing. Smells of roasted malts and somewhat biscuity. Aptly named, this schwarzbier/pilsner hybrid has an airy lightness to the body. That being said, Schwarz Pils shares more in common with its darker hued brethren. Roasted malt gives off a coffee like flavor here with grassy hops balancing. On the light side of medium bodied and well carbonated. Overall, this was a nice beer to pair with a spicy kielbasa, sausage, roasted red pepper, cheese and egg sandwich.

A: The beer is slightly hazy amber in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high beige head that took a very long time to dissipate into lacing covering the surface.
S: There are moderate aromas of floral and grassy hops in the nose.
T: The taste has a moderate to strong amount of bitterness from the hops; some hints of spices are noticeable in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a light amount of carbonation. There is some dryness in the finish.
O: The amber color of this beer is very deceptive because it tastes like a strong pilsner. It’s not too difficult to drink if you can handle the bitterness.

Sampled on-tap multiple times at Brewvival.

Pours a dark brown color with a half-finger slightly off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of light pilsner malts with large amounts of grassy and light citrus hops. Also present are very light amounts of darker black malts.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Crisp pilsner malt flavors kick things off and are joined almost immediately by robust light citrus hops - lemon peel with hints of grapefruit and orange. Midway through the sip the hops dry out with the addition of grassy and lightly herbal flavors. Very light hints of dark malt flavors come into play before fading into a crisp and moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with decent carbonation.

Drinkability is great. I finished my glass very quickly and could easily drink a lot more of these.

Overall the addition of dark malts didn't affect the flavor profile as much as I'd expected and it was closer to the always-phenomenal Prima Pils. Worth a shot for curiosity's sake if you see it around.

a: This was a dark for the style amber color. It was served to me with a one inch, sticky white cap.

s: Some German hop notes and a not unexpected given the name but still hard to comprehend spicy, roasty malt aroma.

t: I always like to try something new and different, but this kind of clashed for me. The dark roasty semi-sweetness just didn't jibe with the German hop finish.

m: Crisp and pretty spot on for a pils.

d: Not bad, but not for me.

On-tap at Victory for b-day.
Odd amber color for a pils. Decent white heading that holds for about 3/4 quarter's until the finish.

Smell is mostly german hops. Slightly grassy notes and a nice toasty malt backing.

Taste is very balanced. Heavier toasted malts that follow up with spicey, and grassy hop kick. Earthy and medicinal finish.

Mouth is nice lighter bodied but pushing towards the middle range.Subtle syrupy stickiness is left on the palate.

A very drinkable pilsener and more for the lighter malty taster's of the world.Very solid.

On tap at the brewery. Nose is bright grassy hops, almost lemony. Darker and with a touch more roast, perhaps, than the Braumeister or Prima. Grains, and a good dose of sweeping hops in the mouth. Sharp and minerally. A bit more robust than their standard pilseners. Pretty tight and crisp though not as refined as some of the greatest ones. Surprisingly grassy. Good stuff

A: Pours an amber transparent color with a thin frothy white cap. This beer is supposed to be a hybrid of sorts, so the color is not meant to be "to-style"

S: Lots of German yeast notes, grain, wheat, a urinal-cake phenolic-like note, and light earthy hops that make it floral. Not terribly complex, but very inviting

T: The hops give a solid bitterness, grainy, earthy, wheaty, and very smooth. Everything works well together, including the yeast. Not necessarily to-style, but very good

MF/D: Smooth feel to it despite the kind of prickly carbonation, the finish is of light grain and wheat. Body is lighter

I had this ontap at Victory Brewery and Restaurant in Dowingtown, Pa. It came in a pilsner glass.
A: The body is a deep brown clear color. The head is 2 fingers tall, very light tan color, great retention, medium sized bubbles and awesome sticky lacing.
S: The aromas are spargy, maybe some BBQ and earthy hops.
T: The flavors are pine resine, earth tones and toffee/espresso.
M: The mouthfeel is dry and thin.
D: This beer is fairly drinkable.
Don't drink and review.

This beer is a beaut. Poured a very dark brown, almost the black that is advertised.
I have to agree it smells like gym socks, but in a good way.
Smell was hoppy and bitter smoke.
Great frothy head with slight lacing
Slightly yeasty, with the pilsner hop aftertaste. Bitter and hoppy with some 'graininess'. I've never had the style before but I think it may be my new favorite. At least it is my new favorite Victory!!

(From notes)

A - Orangey golden brown color; with a generous frothy slightly off-white head; no real lacing, but OK retention

S - Hoppy; sweaty gym socks and musty; kinda weird here; light maltiness

T - Great hoppiness; slightly earthy; bigger malt than some others in the style. Nice stuff here

M - Lighter to medium body; good spritzy carbonation

D - Really darn good considering the flavors as well as the refreshing and dry finish.

Overall, this was very enjoyable once you get past some of the funky aromas and odd juxtaposition of color. Definitely worth a try.
