CBC Saphir Pils pours a clear golden straw-yellow capped off by foamy white head, some slight lacing. The aroma is floral and herbal, with good malt presence. Saphir Pils goes down easy; good amount of the classic pilsner flavors of grassy pine finished nice and dry.

Personally: Another solid example of the great pilsner style by the local pilsner experts of Downingtown, PA.

This is a special one-off version of their Saphir Pils that Victory brewed for the Association of German Hop Growers to showcase their products at the 26th Annual Craft Brewers Conference (April '09).

On tap @ the VBC on 6/27/09. Served in a Pils glass.

Pours a crystal clear gold with a finger of foamy brite-white head. 1/4 finger of frothy retention leaves a rich latticework of lacing back. The aroma is floral and herbal, with a bit of an underlying resinous edge to it. Light fruity smelling citrus and some sparse malt presence add a layer of sweetness to the nose.

The taste is similar, with a grassy and herbal quality to the hops, as well as a more piney and spicy biting bitterness which lends this a definite moderately intense dryness. Some sweet balance isn't sacrificed however, with toasty bread pulling up the bottom and mixing with some residual fruity sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a smoother and creamy feel up front that then firms up towards the back of the swallow, giving the overall profile a crisp feel.

Another crisp and easydrinking Pils from Victory that nicely shows off the Saphir Hop. The aggressive drying bitterness of this is the highlight.

Special thanks to a friend who obtained this bottle for me from the conference.

Pours a nice crystal clear golden yellow, with a two finger head of tight, bright white bubbles.

The aroma is sweet, floral, and has a nice touch of fruit to it. Sweet citrus, floral, and the malt all play nicely off of each other. At first it was kind of bland, but as it warmed just a bit the aroma started to pop.

The flavor shows more than the smell. I get more of a grainy, grassy, herbal kind of thing from it. The sweet fruity floral thing is still there, but it's in the back.

Good feel to it. Nice carbonation with a bit of a drying, bitter finish. Very easy drinking. This is a good summer time brew...if it was only available!

Draught @ Victory: This one pours a fairly clear, golden color. There was a large white head on it that left some lacing. The aroma is good. It was grassy, floral and had some faint pine notes. The taste starts out a touch fruit but not sweet. Then the dryness takes over. A nice bitter finish, with a hint of pine. A very good beer!

I had this ontap at Victory Brewery and Restaurant in Dowingtown, Pa. It came in a tumbler glass
A: The body is a cloudy bright yellow color. The head is 2 fingers tall, bright white color, fine retention, medium sized bubbles and lots of thin lacing.
S: The aromas are spargy, minty and citrus.
T: The flavors are phenolic, peppery and citrus.
M: The mouthfeel is dry and crisp.
D: This beer is pretty drinkable.
Don't drink and review.
