Had on tap at the Beer Store in Southampton. This stuff looks like a pilsner, smells like cat piss, tastes like a mass produced BMC product. I had to power through this one. God is this gross. I'm not quite sure where this went wrong, or if this is just the epitome of a beer that's just "not my type'l but there's no love lost here.

Yikes. I am not a big fan of hoppy, bitter beers, so take this for what it's worth. This is in the top 5 of the worst brews I've ever had.

A: Pale, light yellow in appearance with decent head to begin with, which quickly fades. Some retention left on sides of glass.

S: As rough as this beer tasted, the smell was no better. Lemon zest and citrusy. Not to be mean, but it reminded me of sweaty gym socks.

T: As stated before, I have never been a fan of summer/hoppy brews, so I didn't expect much going in. This was overwhelmingly bitter and citrusy.

O: Just not my glass of beer. It seems to have a great cult following, so if you're in to these types of beers, you may like it. Unfortunately, I did not.

Pint glass. Watered down piss color. Smell is unpleasant. Like mouldy wheat... Taste is not to good either. Weak and watery, wheaty and grainy.... Taste like grain put into a pot with water and left in the fridge for two weeks. The only redeming quality of this beer is how refreshing it is. I could put a few on these down on a hot day just because of how thirst quenching it is. I do not reccomend and i will not buy again.

12oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold with a big rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is honey, malts and a little noble hops.

The flavor is grainy malts and grassy hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light smooth carbonation.

Overall, an OK subdued hoppier blonde ale. Not too exciting.

05/22/13 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. Nothing special. Hops are upfront which leaves me out of the favorable group. Ahhh...yes...summer love. Soon to be forgotten.

Fresh bottle
A - Clear gold, fluffy white head that has good retention and some lacing.

S/T - Hops are up front on this one. Pine, a little grapefruit, but as it warms, cat piss-soaked carpet starts to emerge and totally takes away from the rest of the drink.

M - Light body, crisp clean dry finish.

O - Ugh. Started out well, but barely drinkable by the end. Maybe I'm super sensitive to a hop variety they used in this, or just cat piss in general, because I'm surprised not many other reviewers have picked it out.

DATE REVIEWED: August 1, 2014... GLASSWARE: pint... OCCASION: finding a new favorite show in Drunk History at State College...APPEARANCE: pale, almost wan, weak yellow car body; pillowy white, single-finger head that thins rather quickly... AROMA: sharp banana; damp yeasts with some funk--a wet blanket? noticeably light malt scents--not very alluring ... PALATE: medium-bodied; oily and palpably gritty; smooths out over the course of the glass draining; refreshing overall ... TASTE: light, spritzy lemon; a bit doughy for an ale; the funk in the aroma bleeds into the taste--odd dish detergent lingers... OVERALL: an oddly spotty offering from Victory--sharp and slightly abrasive with the overall experience rounding out the profile with some acceptance, but a mix of scents and tastes that do not seem to coexist peacefully... light enough to fit the season, but not large enough to occupy attention or demand a revisit....

The appearance is... Sadly, I drank it from a bottle.

The aroma is pleasant, but I couldn't detect anything special.

The taste was very hoppy. It was overpowering.

The mouthfeel was flat and thin after 8 sips

Overall, this beer was way too bitter for me.

Part of a pick your own sixer from the market. It is still summer just barely, so lets give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a very earthy dandelion like hoppiness. Pouring into my SAPP this brew is a bright yellow with a big bubble white creamy top head. On the taste the hoppiness prevails up front, not bitter but very bright and sharp with a thin maltiness behind it that doesn't diminish the sharpness of the hops. A different hop belt very yerba like and sweet yet strong. Not really my kind of flavor.

This beer pours with about a half inch of white fluffy head, which dissipates leaving some spotty lacing on the side of the glass. It is a clear brilliant golden beer. Very nice looking. There is something weird happening in the nose. Something making me think I maybe got a bad bottle. there is a little bit of an odd maybe rubberband aroma masking some grainyness and a bit of herby hops. Kind of offputting, and making me not look forward to taking that first sip. After that aroma smacked me in the face, the flavor is surprisingly not that bad. Has a lot of herbey hops and nice grainy malt character. There is a very mild mirroring of that problem from the aroma, but it is not very present. The mouthfeel isn't overly light, which makes me suspect that this is not an infection, but it is a little bit astringent. Light medium body with ok carbonation. I really don't know what to make of this beer. It didn't make me want to get another, but I would like to see if this was a bad bottle or if this is really what this beer is like.

The Victory Summer Love is average at best. I watched a YouTube video of a girl talking about how the Summer Love got her into craft beer, leading her to start a club at her college for other beer-geeks. Ironically, the Victory Hop Devil began my beer phase, and while I do respect Victory for its ability to bridge between the mass-produced and the artisanal, the Summer Love falls into the primer.

The Summer Love looks like any other summer ale or really any other beer - yellow. It smells like any light ale with a touch of hops, and it tastes like a typical summer ale. It's a lightly-hopped, pilsner/pale ale hybrid, with some small flavor and a desire to be refreshing.

Victory is a great brewery, but this beer is not worth it for any beer-geek looking for something with actual flavor and depth. Maybe it's better on tap.

Drink if you're new to craft beers and want something light yet different, or drink if you're a Victory fanboy.

Summer Love

Served in New Belgium globe glass

A: Pours clear straw/gold with a small white head that has little retention. Vibrant effervescence.

S: Bready malts, a whiff of sulfur, lemony zest. Light spiciness, too.

T: Relatively sweet on the front end with a toasty malt kick. Off note of paper joins hay and grass at mid palate. Sulfur shows up, too. Light bitterness tidies up mess and dares you to take another drink.

M: Light body and medium carbonation.

O: The more I drink the less I love Summer Love. I understand that the style calls for a malt-forward approach, but the paper and hay indicate something is amiss.

Got this on tap served on a pint glass. Appearance was pale yellow and somewhat translucent; you could tell a bit of haziness through the body of the beer. Very small head that surprisingly remained for a while, excellent decorative lacing.

It was hard to judge the smell on this beer because it was very faint but from what I could gather you could tell some garden and minty aromas. Taste was also very herbal and minty, a bit medicinal as well with some metallic taste mixed into it. Decent carbonation. Overall, a decent beer to freshen up a little during hot days but lacking some tones and variety in the taste.

It's an okay summer brew. I was expecting something more from Victory. Certainly not worth the $12 you'd pay for a sixer of this here in South Philly.

On tap in a pint glass.

Clear golden color, lager-like look. 1F bright white head, heavy web lacing.

Some mild floral hop aroma with an aroma of cheap fruit perfume.

Raw vegetable and strong mineral taste. German malts are there.

Some bitterness. It worsens as it warms and has an unpleasant finish.

It reminded me why I hadn't taken one of these in years. My bad.

Blondes are tough to review because there is so little to most of them, but while I think many of you might think this is harsh, there just isn't much here to set this apart.

Pours light gold... looks like a coors light...
Whispy head does not last. Taste grainey, sweet, some lemon notes and some alcohol backbone. THis may be the shortest review in history.

I have two stoudt's gold's in the fridge, thankfully...

I love Victory beers, and drinkin at the ballpark... but I'm not sure this is much better than any average adjunct lager... give me an old style at wrigley for a third the price...

Great looking blonde ale, yellow-tan and perfectly clear with plenty of rising bubbles and a big white head that had some staying power and left some lacing too.

Aroma is strangely odd, almost skunky but more like an actual skunk than a skunked beer, weirdly animalistic and heavily earthy, with some wet-dog funk. Flavor is a bit more hoppy with floral notes up front, some citrus (lemon peel) and a quite notable malt backbone, especially for a blonde ale.

Body is weirdly almost like a berliner weiss. Reasonably high carbonation keeps it bubbly.

A truly oddball and weird one. Now this was picked up as a single, so I only had one to base a review on. I'll try to pick it up again, and if there's anything not right about this particular bottle, I'll re-review the beer. But it doesn't seem like there's any infection or reason to not review the beer. The store that sold it generally takes good care of their beer. So for the moment, there you have it.

A- Bright straw yellow with little to no head on it. slight lacing around the brim of the glass. looks like an avg blonde ale.

S- Nice malty sweetness with slightly earthy euro hops, smells really dry too. Almost has some fruity belgian yeast character.

T- Earthy dry bitterness. Has the taste of lager yeast, reminds me way more of a kolsch than a blond. Not really stoked on this beer.

M- This is where this beer almost saves itself by having a nice light mouthfeel, but thats to be expected from a light summer style.

O- Pass the Festina peche please

A- a golden yellow. Bright color. 1 finger head.
S- I sorta get where people say it smells of hay but I smell a sour spoiled sent. Like a sour fairy smell. I have only smelled sweet hay.
T- a little tang. A little wheat beer flavor to me minus the clove and orange taste.
M- nothing to really get excited about here.
O- not for me. But don't want to skewer it here. I'm sure plenty of people could get into it. I don't like the taste.

Normally an advocate of all that is Victory, this beer was unimpressive. Not bad, just unimpressive. A slightly cloudy amber ale that smells and tastes just like any other ale. Unlike most summer seasonals that lean on the sweet side or at least citrusy, this ale does very little to stray from a basic ale. In fact, I'd imagine in a taste test it would not taste all that much different from Victory Lager, one of their staples. All in all not bad at all, in fact pretty good, but as a seasonal it is lacking in being something special.

BB 20 Nov 14 bottle at 40degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of light malt
Head small (1.2 cm), off white, frothy, rapidly diminishing to 4 mm ring and broken I mm layer
Lacing virtually none – very few very small islands of tiny bubbles
Body light yellow, hazy
Flavor of lightly toasted malt, slight hops bitterness; no hops flavor, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light to medium, watery, soft carbonation

Appearance 3, Aroma 3.25, Flavor 3, Palate 3, Overall 3.06. Final weighted score: 3.0625
An OK ale, nothing special.

Had this in what seems to be its intended setting... at a picnic in a park by the water on one of the first nice days of summer. It did the trick, but wasn't anything particularly special. It has the same strong floral hoppiness going on as many other "summer" brews, though there isn't quite as much fruitiness as you sometimes get from blonde ales. One thing I'll say for it is it didn't lose flavor as I drank it, as some beers do on hot summer days.

a: copper/yellow. looks light, a touch hazy. Very fluffy cream head that sticks around, leaves little lacing.

s: pleasant aroma of citrus and pine hops. touch sweet from a dark fruit of some kind. The aroma is light on these two items...it then shifts to a scent of wet leather and funky water.

t: a bit malty without the sweet. barley and oats perhaps. get occasional hits of hoppiness and touches of fruit, but all the flavors here are fleeting and come and go. waves of floral, gumminess and orange/tropical fruit are there at times. They are good, just out of synch with each other and a touch off balance. Very average pale ale here.

m: thin. good carbonation, though. average of a pale ale, again.

o: with a name like summer love I was expecting a good session beer find for the summer. I thought this will be filled with all of my favorite things. Rather, I get a very average ale with lackluster pop on the palette and no real need to venture into Ohio beer stores on a quest to locate. It is not bad, by any mean...just very average. Not the brew I'd Love to have all Summer...I can think of several pales I'd take instead in a heartbeat. Very average here.
