Poured bottle into glass. 5.2% abv

Appearance- Light yellow with a bubbly 2 finger head. Quite clear.

Smell- A blend of sweet malt along with lemon.

Taste- A sourbread-like malt flavor that has some soapiness quality about it. The hints of lemon citrus from the nose follow into the taste. The flavor ends with hop bitterness and some pepper like spice as well. The malt is strong as it even is there in the finish. Much more malty than hoppy but this is as it should be for the style.

Mouthfeel- Thin to medium and dry. The carbonation makes this beer alive on the palate.

Overall- Not too much unlike a German pilsener but has qualities of an ale to it such a the hops on the back end of the taste. As being new to the blond ale style, I thought this was refeshing due to the thinner body and lemon zest it has to it. I thought the malt up front was a bit bland however, though that does not detract too much from it. Not a bad offering from Victory.

Great looking blonde ale, yellow-tan and perfectly clear with plenty of rising bubbles and a big white head that had some staying power and left some lacing too.

Aroma is strangely odd, almost skunky but more like an actual skunk than a skunked beer, weirdly animalistic and heavily earthy, with some wet-dog funk. Flavor is a bit more hoppy with floral notes up front, some citrus (lemon peel) and a quite notable malt backbone, especially for a blonde ale.

Body is weirdly almost like a berliner weiss. Reasonably high carbonation keeps it bubbly.

A truly oddball and weird one. Now this was picked up as a single, so I only had one to base a review on. I'll try to pick it up again, and if there's anything not right about this particular bottle, I'll re-review the beer. But it doesn't seem like there's any infection or reason to not review the beer. The store that sold it generally takes good care of their beer. So for the moment, there you have it.

12oz bottle into Willybecher Glass

A: Golden straw colored brew that produces a thin white head with moderate retention and meager lacing, appearance suggests filtering. High level of clarity allowing the light to pass readily - Looks light and refreshing, inviting onlookers to sip at a certain speed.

S: Initially yeasty bringing twangs of hop and lemon citrus. Light fresh florals impart a clean earthiness that is reminiscent of a garden in springtime. The nose combines a flirtatious citrus zest with mellow grounded golden malt. Overall very pleasing.

T: Opens softy with an all malt presentation, its clean and the carbonation is well suited. Ever so bitter hops elevate themselves on the palate showcasing wild flowers, citrus peel, and hints of coriander. The opening is pleasant, but has a hindered transition into the middle mouth. Mid mouth is slightly bland, dominated by the German malt and underwhelming hop presence. Arid notes of dry grass, clean ginger, juniper, bits of honey and yeast. Muted sweetness finishes off the flavors and departs with a parched astringency.

M: A highlight; sporting well suited carbonation and medium body that eloquently combine to yield a few clean, refreshing, and drinkable beer.

O: Never been a huge blonde fan. This beer has high drinkability and that’s its selling point in my opinion. The aroma is nice and it presents strongly, but fails to fully come to fruition. This brew is ideal for whetting the whistle and fits the bill for summer drinking. If you cross paths with this beer, plan on having a few, I don’t believe it’s meant for sipping.

Had this in what seems to be its intended setting... at a picnic in a park by the water on one of the first nice days of summer. It did the trick, but wasn't anything particularly special. It has the same strong floral hoppiness going on as many other "summer" brews, though there isn't quite as much fruitiness as you sometimes get from blonde ales. One thing I'll say for it is it didn't lose flavor as I drank it, as some beers do on hot summer days.
