A: As is appropriate with a bear named Headwaters... the head is excellent! 3+ fingers of white fluffy head. Color is a rich amber/copper color. Clarity is excellent and I can see lots of action from the carbonation. The head has fantastic retention. Looks amazing!

S: Smells majorly of hops primarily citrus. It does smell the slightest bit dank as well. Nice caramel malt aromas too.

T: First thing that hits me is the citrus hop flavors. It's actually really bright and floral as well. That's followed by a caramelly malt that is wrapped in bread. It's full of really clean and bright flavors. The finish is lightly bitter and actually fairly bready.

M: Nice, high carbonation. Slick and medium body.

O: This pale really took me off guard. I had no idea it was going to be as good as it ended up being. It's bright, balanced and really drinkable. Nice work Victory.

Poured into a pint glass.

A- Spicy hop character with some mild orange hops as well. Caramel and some nice full maltiness as well.

A- Brilliantly clear light amber with a nice white two finger head.

F- Spicy hop character reminding me of Centennial predominates initially. The malt character quickly follows and is nice and strong with some mild caramel sweetness present, but definitely in the background.

M- Full body and above average carbonation. Quick to clear the palate

O- A really nice interpretation of the APA. I'll return to this again for sure. I would chose this over many other pale ales in national distribution.

Reviewed from session notes.

A. Standard amber color with great clarity and a two finger head with great retention time but sadly poor lacing.

S. I smell the caramel malt first and up front with an array of herbal, florals, and citric hopping. (In descending order of aroma strength) Smells like it's going to be a malt-emphasis APA...

T. ...And it is. Caramel malt is the center ring attraction with a supporting cast of herbals, florals, and citric hopping presented to the palate in almost total lockstep to what the nose is comprised of. The only difference between aroma and flavor that I can tease out of this one is that there is a small amount of pine resin that ghosts in and out of the finish.

M. Lighter bodied, refreshing and well carbonated.

This is a somewhat better than average malt-leaning APA.

A- Pours easy, smooth, gentle. The head develops quite nicely with very miniscule bubbles, not necessarily a creamy emulsion on top, but something appreciable. We got some disturbing medium to large size bubbles cascading up from the bottom of the glass and ripping through the cap. Copper body is clear to vision.

S- Very light floral and herby nose. A light metallic sharpness does flow through the hop character. Could be a bit of grapefruit as well. Simple, but faint at the same time.

T- Opens herby hop nature, spicy, bit sharp. Flows into a more grassy nature, bit of sweetness but very subdued. Finishes the standard bitterness that has pine thoughts, but not pine frond or bark. Bit of a simple, normal flavor.

M- Nice full body, sort of creamy. Crisp ending around the side of my tongue. Doesn't bubble the entire palate, just picks and chooses where it would like to find its nucleation points.

Not bad, not great. Just a pale ale you can enjoy when you got no other options.

This Pale ale pours a burnished gold, with some copper near the edges, a frothy inch of white head that leaves some lace but is retained well throughout. Caramel malt sweetness is mostly overshadowed by floral and piney hop aromas, a lot of hop aromas for a Pale Ale! The brew is somewhat spicy and bready, with caramel maltiness balanced by moderate citrus and piney hop bitterness, leading to a clean and smooth finish. A medium-light body with lower level amounts of carbonation. A newer offering from the good folks at Victory that is well worth searching out.

Cheers!

I'm running out of beers wtih several hundred reviews that I've never had, but this is definitely one that I've managed to overlook for the past decade, that ends today. On tap at Meridian pint.

Beer is light amber and clear with moderate to light carbonation, a thin white head of small bubbles, some lacing, looks nice.

Aroma is sweet, mildy hoppy, a little earthy, smells fine.

Beer is medium to light in body, easy drinking, wet finish, wet throughout, the hops are subdued and under emphasized, there is a mild graininess to the finish but overall a decent APA.

A pleasant surprise! On tap at the BBC in Wilmington...

Pours a clear amber, lighter than many, with decent head and lacing. Aroma of caramelized malts with a nice citrus hop undertone. Flavour is well balanced; malts with decent "c" hops... pine & grapefruit present, but not overwhelming. Would buy again.

I tried this pint with trepidation after other Victory attempts, but was genuinely impressed. Will support this brewery at any future point that I can...
