On tap served in a pint glass

A - Golden amber with 1 finger white head with good retention and good lacing

S - Grapefruit, apricot, a touch of pine, caramel malt.

T - Follows the nose, big hop presence with nice malt caramel note, just a bit too much alcohol present.

M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, chewy.

O - Good, but the hops or malt needs turned up in comparison to the etoh.

Had on tap at Brouwers. Review from notes.

A: Pours a clear orange, rather bright, with a small white head which is foamy. Nice head retention with pretty lacing down the sides.

S: Some citrus fruits upfront, lots of orange and orange peel. There is a bit of bready malt and a little sugary sweetness as well

T: Some bitterness right away with pine upfront which leads to some intense citrus fruit - mostly orange, but a bit of pineapple and grapefruit. Light caramel and grainy malt.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. ABV hidden very well.

O: One of the best I have had from Victory. A smooth DIPA.

I had this the week after Victory had visited Goodnight Irene's in NJ at Irene's.

A golden orange clear ale with a creamy head and fine lace.

The nose has clear peach aroma and traces of pear. A little hint of caramely melts in the background.

This one is sticky and phenolic.  The peach is there in the front and the finish is a hoppy grapefruit rind.

It has a medium body with fine carbonation.

On tap @ the Victory Brewing Company (Downingtown, PA) on 2/19/12. Served in an imperial pint. This is a 9% DIPA with Centennial hops.

Pours a crystal clear copper, topped with a ½ finger of bright-white froth. This retains with some nice looking creamy edging, which throws up a sudsy cascade of sticky lacing. This just has a really rich look to it that is maintained throughout the duration of the glass. The aroma smells floral and piney, with some herbal and spicy leafy accents and an underlying presence of bitter grapefruit. Softer tropical fruit notes adhere to that herbal character and a grainy sweetness along the back, to give this a sticky feel that helps contrast the more aggressive aspects of the hops here in the nose. This has some nice fresh power to it.

The taste has a firm grapefruit bitterness that spreads pith, pine, and spice out across the palate. This is tempered somewhat by softer and sweeter notes of tropical fruit, caramel and bread character from the malt, and herbal textures that flow throughout the profile. The finish has some intensity to it though, with bitter pith and resins definitely having some strength. The mouthfeel is medium to fuller bodied, with a big mouth filling firm crispness to the carbonation which blows up a bit in the mouth. Some underlying slickness does help those big flavors move along and that 9% ABV is mostly well hid. It’s just that the alcohol adds a certain degree of fierceness to the hops that wears on the palate a bit.

I liked this. While it is aggressive with the hops, things do smooth out a bit as this warms and the overall fresh brightness of this helps carry it through to the end. The only thing that holds this back is the high alcohol presence, as maybe 20oz of this was a bit too much for one sitting. It’s definitely worth checking out though and I’m really intrigued as to where they might be going with this new Ranch DIPA series.
