Served in a .5 liter glass for $5.50 at the brewpub. This beer was brewed in partnership with the German Hop Growers Association specifically to be debuted at the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego. Brewed with 100% Mandarina hops, a new, experimental hop that just recently received an official name.

A: Served with 1 finger of white head with average retention. A creamy film remains on top for the duration of the brew. The body is very clear, golden orange in color. Lacing is very good.

S: Starts off with an orange-forward hop aroma that has a very fresh clementine-like scent. Not very intense but easily identifiable. A pale malt base sits beneath featuring fresh grain and light colored bread. Quality nose, but just above average for a well crafted brew.

T: Very welcoming bright orangey citrus flavor. A fairly nondescript malt canvas allows this new hop a chance to shine. Very nice flavor and bitterness courtesy of 100% Mandarina hops. An all day, easy drinking brew.

M: The mouthfeel is basically perfect. Fine rolling bubbles of effervescence. The carbonation provides a sustained tingling sensation on the tongue from the beginning of the sip till several seconds after the swallow. Medium-light body.

O: Very approachable and highly drinkable, this beer is a success.

LOOK: Pale bronze colored brew with a nice dense head. Leaves ring after ring of lace on the glass. Shows off a fine clarity, with carbonation rising to the top.

SMELL: Aroma of herbal, grassy German hops. There is a mild citrus tone, as well as some toffee like pale malt aroma as well.

TASTE: Fresh, herbal hopping upfront with leafy, tea like notes from whole cone hops. There is a subtle fruityness of the yeast, and a very light hint of citrus. The hops, however, show to be mostly herbal, leafy and modestly bitter.

FEEL: Medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Oily hop resins linger into the finish, and the beer is a more or less easy drinking pale with strong hop character.

OVERALL: A solid pale ale with a nice German hop character. The hops come off mild and flavorful, and impart a delicate bitterness and grassy note. Nice to see a rarity like this in the market, and definitely has potential.

Pour is transparent amber with a creamy white head. Nose is extremely faint, slightly doughy and caramel balanced by some soft tropical fruit hop aromas. Taste is very different. Extremely doughy mixed with caramel, might be a touch of diacetyl in this. Tropical fruit hops, mangos and berries, more dough in the finish with a lightly lingering bitterness. Body is a touch syrupy with moderate carbonation.

On tap at Mad Mex Cranberry. Served in a standard pint glass. Served with a moderate sized fluffy white head. Copious amounts of lacing. Beer itself is a slightly hazy darker shade of yellow. Aroma is kind if weird: toasty malts, some sweet bread, oatmeal and grain. There is a hint of orange, but its not really orange in the classical hoppy sense. Taste is dominated with the toasty graininess. Dry, almost chalky. Maybe a slight herbal quality. Hops definitely come through with a more "noble" characteristic than anything New World. Dry mouthfeel. Dry, but not quite astringent, bitterness. An interesting brew. Don't see this hop being the next big thing, but the beer itself isn't bad.
BTW, if you're going to name your hop Mandarina, you expect something along the lines of Citra, or at least something more citrusy. And this certainly isn't that.

Has a nice yellow-orange color. Some chill haze from the taplines. Head is small, but static; a collection of half an inch, slowly petering out.

Pine, floral, and citrus hop character right there. Orange rind and spring flowers. Pine is quite distinct. Malts smell semi-sweet. Not detecting much potential bitterness.

Ooh-la-la... that's a fancy hop there, Victory. Dry pine (not sappy), uber-dry grapefruit pith, herbal orange, lemon, lime, and floral notes. Hint of jasmine tea?? Maybe... Definitely huffing with unexpected bitterness. Pale malts are drier and really quiet. Quite hoppy, indeed. Delicious and clean and really dry. Wonderful finish with some bitter fruitiness. Great pale ale.

Spritzy and a little gargle-y. Lotsa carbo! Fancies up this simple-bodied brew and gives it some fight. I look down after six or seven minutes and my glass is nearly empty. Clearly, I can get down with this!

Hoppy in a way that reminds me of some Three Floyds beers. Love that Mandarina hop! Makes for a unique pale ale.
