On tap @ the Victory Brewing Company (Downingtown, PA) on 5/19/12. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a clear dark colored copper, with a finger of slightly off-white foamy head. This retains with some richness, leaving back some sudsy sticky lacing. The aroma smells fresh and floral in the nose, with some light pine, herbal and softer fruit notes and then a strong spiciness. Underneath lies a twang of green citrus and sweet malty flavors of caramel and dough.
The taste has more of a mellow bitterness to it at first that then does pick up some strength. For the most part though, the hop profile is more about softer herbal accents, light soft fruit, and zesty lemon, which works well with the grapefruit bitterness here. The malt backbone on this is on the sweeter side, with more of a sugary caramel feel it, but this does work well with the citrus to add a nice tanginess to the profile. Hops firm up the finish on this with lingering notes of resins and some stronger spice. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with more of a mellow, creamy, and slick feel up front before laying down a steady crispness on the tongue and then along the back. This is a touch warm but that 7% ABV is overall pretty decently hid here.
I liked this hop varietal and its use in this IPA as it kept any aggressiveness more in the background where it gave this a fresh crispness, while keeping the focus more on that mellower herbal and fruit character which really aided the overall accessibility of this. This was probably my favorite of these new CBC IPAs.

First had: on tap at TJ's, Paoli, PA
Wasn't too huge on this one, but it was still a decent brew from the ever-solid Victory. More and more IPAs just keep popping up on the market these days.
Dark copper-brown pour, clear, with a nice thick whitish head that retained well and left some nice doily lacing on the glass. Nice citrusy hops on the nose, with a solid bready malt base in the background. Pretty similar profile in the taste, with a good balance of sweet caramel hops and fruity, citrusy hops, with touches of pine. Not too bad, but nothing really distinctive, I thought. Smooth, light-medium body, and pretty drinkable overall. Might as well just grab a HopDevil though.

Bavarian Spalt Select IPA
Victory Brewing Company
Style: American IPA
ABV: 7.00 %
LOOK: Hazed orange appearance with a soapy, slightly off white head. Leaves plenty of lace and the head has some staying power.
SMELL: Aroma of mandarin orange marmalade, pine, herbs, and bread.
TASTE: In the taste, mellow grassy hops with some citrus, a bit of orange, herbs and slightly bitter. Mild sweet toffee like flavors from a mostly bready malt body. Good but a bit restrained and none of the tastes were truly standout. Still, this brew is not without a fine balance.
FEEL: Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, finish was slightly dry and hoppy.
OVERALL: An interesting take on an IPA from Victory. Mellow flavors of sweet malt and hops. Would pair rather nicely with a sausage and cheese plate.

on tap at khyber
Pours a burnt copper color with some golden hues. Crop of white head slowly fades into patchy, spotty lacing on the glass with a cloudy of film resting on top of the beer.
Bursting citrus in the nose with lemon, orange and grapefruit. Notes of zest and peel with a slightly sweeter malt presence. Hints of caramel and honey followed by a slight alcohol warmth.
Nice hop bite up front, driven by a citrusy wave of orange and grapefruit. A bit pithy and pulpy with some encroaching malt sweetness. Caramel, bread crust and some soft notions of burnt sugar. Finishes bitter and citrusy with light alcohol presence.
Medium body, nice carbonation, sticky and slick on the tongue. Some of these CBC beers have been pretty decent - this was towards the top for me. Plenty of citrus flavor, although it was slightly sweet for my tastes.

Stopped by Victory on 31MAY12 for dinner and some brews while taking a break from the Reading WWII Weekend.
Had a 0.5l becher glass of this new offering. My glass was filled with a clear, deep copper brew, plentiful carbo bubbling topside. The head was thick and creamy, a frothy layer of off-white foam, which left great lacework behind. The aroma was mild, but some hoppy spiciness did come forth. The body was solidly medium, and the bier was fairly smooth going down.
Flavor had some light caramel malts contributing a touch of semi-sweetness at first. Then it was hops, and more hops... They were both floral and spicy, with a suggestion of mint, too. The finish had a smidge of bitter rindyness, ending things quite nicely. Very drinkable and solid all around. Prosit!!

A - Clear copper amber with 2 finger khaki head, fluffy, with good retention and excellent lacing.
S - Grapefruit, lemon, malt, herbal hop note, biscuit, crackers.
T - A fairly subtle brews with a nice range of flavors. A wide range of hop notes of chiefly citrus and herbal tones, but also spicy, earthy, and pine bitterness is found. The hops are well balanced with a malt backbone of sweet caramel and biscuits. Well balance neat IPA.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, chewy.
O - A well balance IPA with a lot to offer.
