Had a growler filled at Consumers in Orchard Park.Poured a brilliant copper witha sticky cloud-like slightly off white head,a full ring of lace behind was left behind.Intense sticky hops in the nosse, alot of tropical fruit mixed in with pine resin, sweet alcohol a big caramel malt as well.A burst of fruity hops at first sip with the hop flavor profile more fruity and floral than bitter, sweet stinging alcohol stnds up well to the hops, caramel sweetness is noticable.A big fruity hop attack,a great DIPA wich isn't to sweet.

32 oz. growler filled a few days ago, but unopened, poured into a NB snifter.

A - Pours a rather pale washed-out lemon-lime. One-finger head of rather loose, fluffy just-off-white foam dissipates quickly, leaving a sheen of lace and bubbles across the surface. Held to a full-spectrum light, the beer is a luminescent golden orange and almost clear, with a touch of bubbles rising from the bottom center. Lots of legs on the glass when drinking, suggesting a richness of malts that don't get translated to the mouthfeel.

S - Citrus and pine. Wet, mulch-like notes in the background, almost like a barnyard. Very lightly toasted malts with hints of orange and light caramel. As it warms, tropical fruit sugars assert themselves a bit more.

T - Freshly cut grapefruit, which plants itself on the center of the tongue and stays. Rougher, woody hops follow. Orange Jolly Rancher in the background emerges after the hops parade, along with some tropical fruit notes like pineapple. Wheat bread lightly toasted serves as the base. Not a trace of alcohol in the taste profile - the ABV is completely hidden. Orange/grapefruit becomes a bit bitter on the backend, like zest or rind.

M - Somewhat fizzy, but lightly carbonated. Moderately thin structure, and almost a bit watery as it warms. Finish is rather clean from the hop dominance and lingers somewhat, featuring the bitter side of the fruit notes.

O - The rough, woody edges of this beer along with its thinness suggest what a Saison specialty house would brew if it needed to produce a double IPA. The ABV is completely hidden, and only shows up after a couple of glasses when you're wondering where that buzz came from. Seems like a pretty straight-forward Imperial IPA that doesn't really have any quality that makes it stand out from the crowd to this non-hophead. Worth a taste if this style is your thing, but it's not a selection I'll be looking for.

Ranch is a bright coppery shade of orange, clear but for a little chill haze and the darkness keeping a whole lot of light from passing through. The off-white head is about half a finger tall, displays good retention, and drops spotty lacing.
The aroma provides some juicy citrus as well as pith, along with a sort of perfumey and earthy mixture backed up by caramel malts that allow the hops to take over. Some slightly sweeter, more mellow tropical fruit hints linger underneath.
The flavor is deep and layered pretty nicely. It starts juicy on the tongue with citrus and the malt then giving way to earthy, floral, perfumey and raw, stem/leaf bitterness. Some resin comes in there too, but it doesn't dry it out or add too much pith to it. It's sort of rustic but clean.
The feel is also clean, bright and lively in a medium body. Crispness is consistent all the way through, and it's pretty nicely smooth to boot.

On tap @ the VBC. Copper with a rich bright-white head. Sudsy retention with rich sticky lacing. Smells fresh and herbal with some floral and pine accents mixed in as well. Underneath, bitter grapefruit mingles with some lighter tropical flavors while a sweet graininess sits along the back. Alcohol adds some beef in the nose. The taste is herbal and tropical, which melds with the sweet grains of the malt. An aggressive streak of green bitterness and resins stretch down the middle of the profile and into the finish. The feel is medium to fuller with some sharpness on tongue and then more of a slick creaminess underneath. Some alcohol warmth is present but it mostly serves to elevate the strength of the hops. This is solid DIPA with a good balance of flavors that I would expect for the style and a relatively accessible body for 9%. Worth a look.
