Bottled on Oct. 05 '07, best within five years according to label. Poured into a glass chalice:
Pours reddish orange with a thin head that immediately becomes a swirling, vanishing, patch.
The smell is of fruity esters, bready yeast and some caramel.
The taste is fruity with a sweet maltiness. I wish I could put my finger on the type of fruitiness - but a general fruitiness will have to suffice. There is a vague, subdued herbal spiciness. Peppery alcohol quite visible, especially as it progresses, with a sharp, hot finish.
It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied, with something of an oily texture. Soft carbonation. Boozy.
It's a decent stab at the style, though the alcohol covered any potential subtleties.
Maybe if the bar weren't so high for the style, I would have given it a bit higher in marks, but, though it does have some nice qualities, esp. in the aroma department, it just doesn't match up with some others I can think of...Also - booziness and general lack of depth don't help...
