Year 2 of the Victory spring seasonal Swing. A session saison at 4.5% abv. Enjoy by June 30, 2014. Gotta love a freshness date! Poured into a willi becher pint glass.

Crisp clarity shows off the moderate carbonation rising through the pale gold body. The head is thick at first. A white, soap-sudsy consistency that doesn't last. I tried to make sure that the glass was clean, but I used hard tap water to clean it, and now I am wondering if that impacted the head much. Usually Victory beers have very good head retention.

The aroma is citrus-forward, evoking bitter rinds of grapefruit, orange and lemon. There is a peppery note here as well, though it's subtle and behind the citrus. It smells right at home in the saison category, but it certainly differentiates itself from the pack. There might be a slight aroma from hops here too, but it blends in seamlessly with the other aromas.

Very nice flavor here. A fairly dry beer with very modest bitterness that allows the peppercorn flavor to come through in the finish. The citrus takes the stage front and center and contributes a clean, refreshing citrus flavor on the palate. The carbonation is strong enough to carry this beer and keep it light on the tongue.

If the goal was to create a sessionable saison, then I would say Victory certainly did their job. It is an interesting, flavorful, moderately bitter saison with lots of citrus, making it suitable for the spring, summer, and lots of cuisine. However, my only complaint with this beer is that it tires the palate, and not because it is overly heavy or too hoppy, but because it should be dialed down a few more notches. I liked Classique a lot (which I reviewed but a few days ago) because it was SO basic and well executed. I find this to be "reaching" so to speak...Nonetheless, great well crafted beer!

Pours a clear golden color with a fizzy white head that leaves a ring of lacing.

Smells of lemony citrus and some floral notes.

Tastes of the lemon with some grainy malts and a bit of hops. Lemon zest notes lead off before some floral hops come through. Grainy malts come next with a bit of sweetness. A touch of pepper and funk add towards the end before one last kick of citrus finishes it.

Moithfeel is medium-light with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a tasty saison and gets a bit of a bonus for keeping the alcohol down.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. 6/21

Pours very pale gold, a little hazy, 1/4 inch white head. Peppery spicy belgian yeast nose. Tart, citrus taste with a peppery hop. Spicy. Buzzes in the mouth during and after. Lively saison. Snaps to a close.
