12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a mildly hazed straw color. The head is a fluffy two finger white shade that collapses pretty quickly, but leaves nice lacing on the glass.

S: There is a decent amount of complexity here for a 4.5% saison. I pick up coriander, orange peel, grassy hops, sage, and black pepper. However, there's also a vegetal green pepper note that's detracting - and even worse, it gets stronger as it warms up.

T: This is weird. It opens up fairly citrusy - which I like - but ends on both a watery and a vegetal note. Decent (if overdone) spicing in the middle gives way to a bell pepper finish that really rubs me the wrong way. The flavor profile sorely lacks balance and cohesion.

M: Very clean and dry, which I like. Very astringent too, which I don't. This beer seemingly parches the palate excessively in the name of drinkability. Ah well, the latter is good, at least.

O: Swing...and a miss. This one was quite disappointing, considering Victory makes another saison that's really damn good. And it's another damning reminder that they really need to put Helios in 6-packs!

Bottle poured into a tulip.

A: Dark golden hue, with one finger of thin head dissipating very quickly.

S: Relatively strong hues of citrus, lemon predominates but some orange or grapefruit as well.

T: An early citrus punch, lemon and orange. Overpowering white pepper that fades into the classical Belgian funk finish of a saison. Minimal but detectable hop finish - a strange bitterness added to the fruit and peppercorn.

M: Medium thickness, somewhat thick for the style, somewhat reminiscent of biting into a pear (that gritty fullmouth feel). The fine carbonation helps release the citrus zest and fades early for a gentle hoppy finish.

O: Saisons are not exactly my go to style, but this one in particular was not a stunner. The white pepper and clove really conflict with the crisp citrus and Belgian yeast. I'm glad I didn't get a whole 6 pack.

Light golden color has almost a green tint to it. Nice nebulous lacing, but the color is as pale as you'd expect from the description of this "session" beer.

Smells strongly of grassy hops and phenols, some medicinal aromas as well. Something almost like anise; which returns in the aftertaste in something a bit like Chinese 5-spice powder. The smell straddles a line between funky and skunky; at moments its delectable, others its not.

And here we reach a problem. The aftertaste is so strong of black pepper and lemongrass, I really can't describe the flavor of the malt and grains at all. Their lightness is so overshadowed by the additions they become completely non-descript.

Mouthfeel is incredibly crisp and dry; certainly what I expect the brewers are going for.

Session Saison gets points for bravery in its bold additions of ingredients, but in its execution its resulted in flavors much out of balance.

A: A bright white head 3 fingers tall formed in the glass and receeded quicly leaving behind spider web like lacing on the edge. The beer a light peach color, very clear until I poured the remaining dregs into the glass then a bit of sediment was introduced.

S: Spicey lemon and orange zest mixed with corriander and some citrusy hop aroma. Very low toasty aroma masked by the very purfumey spices.

T: On the first sip a burst of spices hits the pallet very very much like the aroma would lead you to expect. corriander, zest and peppery notes. After a few more sips and the pallet adjusts a moderate hop bitterness is detected, possibly being emphasised by the spices and the dry finish of this beer. Noble type hop flavor is low in the finish. Very low low bready flavors also come through.

M: Carbonation is high giving it a bit of a sharp carbonic bite. The spices leave a drying sensation on the tounge. Very low body making it more drinkable and consistant with the session title.

O: A spicey (boarderline overboard), dry, saison that doesn't live up to the session name. If this beer would have been lighter on the spices and slighly less carbonated I might be able to get behind it but overall I'm not a fan.
