12 oz. bottle, with best by date of July 27, 2013 printed on the bottleneck, so I'm a little late on this one, but I fear not. Yet another offering from Victory Brewing Co., this time their spring saison.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a light lemon colored body with lots of spritzy carbonation rushing to the surface, and some very fine sediment suspended in the glass. Just over a finger of soft bubbly white head. Some scattered rings of fat lace. Looks good.
S - Smell is of cracked black pepper, citric lemon juice, dried grass / herbal spice rack notes like oregano and thyme, and some sour vinegar acidity.
T - Tastes like a Belgian beer would, by most standards. Bubblegum malt, cloves, herbal spice rack notes - oregano, thyme, lemongrass, etc., hint of pepper, rye, dry papery grains, metallic well water, and some faint citric lemon zest on the finish.
M - Feel is crisp, clean, smooth, and refreshing. Just a hint of mild herbal bitterness lingering on the palate. Finishes dry and lightly grainy. Light-bodied, with appropriate high spritzy, tingling carbonation on the tongue.
Overall, definitely well enough for what it is. Not my favorite style by far, but a light, refreshing, and sessionable choice. Light and approachable. I might even have it again, if the occasion should arise.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass
Appearance: Pours a golden yellow color with a finger of white head that slowly dissolved into a lacing of foam that covered the entire top of the beer.
Aroma: The beer has that typical, floral, Belgian-Saison aroma of banana, clove, orange-peel and yeast. A very bright aroma.
Taste: The flavor, however, is much weaker than the aroma. Very thin floral notes of hops and citrus, with just the faintest touch of coriander and clove.
Mouthfeel: Thin, slightly watery, but with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. At an ABV of only 4.5%, there is absolutely no presence of alcohol on the palate.
Overall: This is a pretty good beer, but nothing special. I enjoyed it, and if offered, will enjoy it again, but I probably won’t go out of my way to look for it.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 8/13/2013. Pours moderately hazy golden straw color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange zest, pear, coriander, clove, pepper, ginger, wheat, bread, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness. very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of yeast ester, spice, and moderate malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange zest, pear, coriander, clove, pepper, ginger, wheat, bread, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of lemon, pear, coriander, clove, pepper, cracker, bread, floral, grass, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spice, and moderate malt flavors; with great flavor robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice session saison style. Nice complexity, balance, and robustness of yeast, spice, and moderate malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
