Pours a straw color with a head that quickly falls, very little lacing.

Smells sweet oaky white wine and vinegar, some vanilla

Taste starts out kind of sweet, light and grapey, the barrel notes quickly take hold, vanilla, oak but the grape stays there throughout

Medium bodied, and well carbonated, keeps this beer from becoming syrupy or cloying.

Overall, a very interesting beer, probably more enjoyable for me than the Golden Monkey base beer.

Color- cloudy gold. Medium head.

Aroma- dry and grapey.

Taste- Starts with vanilla and barrel notes then turns to sawdust and stale shredded wheat finishing with a beautiful, rich wine barrel finish. A truly unusual brew. Much better than Golden Monkey.

Poured from a corked 750 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted June 2014.

Poured from a 750ml corked and muzzled bottle (bottled on 4/11/14) into a Rastal Teku 2.0 glass...the cork was so stiff that it broke and needed to use a corkscrew to remove what remained trapped.

A - Pours an rather beautiful and slightly hazy honey-like golden with a conservative 1/2-to-1 finger tight, white head. Being 9.5%, it should come as no surprise that the head dissipated rather quickly. White Monkey is only slightly bottle conditioned, as their is not much residual sediment present in future pours, nor at the bottom of the bottle. (5.0)

S- The aroma is outrageous! 'The Monkey' has certainly absorbed an insane amount of barrel character. Honey sweetness and (in a good way) buttery, vanilla notes are most prominent followed by oak, apple, pear, peach, bubblegum and banana. As the beer warms, some orange citrus and alcohol heat creeps in. Being only lagered for 3-months in the barrels, I can only imagine that this is first generation cooperage for Victory. (5.0)

T- Like the aroma, a massive burst of honey and vanilla sweetness hits the palate first. Mid-palate is where the fruits enter the profile: green apple, pear, melon, green grape, pineapple and mild bubblegum/banana. A lingering sweet, (again, in a good way) buttery finish coats the palate but ultimately gives way to some mild oak tannin which brushes aside the residual sweetness. Despite the elevated ABV, the alcohol goes undetected. The complexity is ridiculous and find my eyes rolling into the back of my head after each sip. (5.0)

M- Slick and coating with just enough oak tannin to leave the palate relatively unharmed. Heavier side of medium bodied with a creamy carbonation that is just enough to showcase the plethora of aromas in the nose and open the palate enough for them to carry through in the taste. (5.0)

O- If you like white wine, or more specifically oak-aged Chardonnay's, White Monkey is a showcase for how it can transform and intensify an already stellar beer like Golden Monkey. Although the spices present in the aroma and flavor of Golden Monkey are largely overcome by the barrel-aging. I love everything on offer here: Belgian tripels, white wine and barrel/oak aging.. With the exception of a more-than-stubborn cork (of which I will not knock since it the contents of which are being reviewed), it should come as no surprise as to my perfect review for a beer that will undoubtedly rank in my personal, all-time favorites list..
