We pour a brew of glowing squash yellow into our Ommegang Game of Thrones snifter/tulips. It holds a two finger head of snowy, peach fuzz-colored bubbles, showing fantastic retention. The lacing that is left is wet and drippy, leaving ghostly, amorphous shells of their former selves. A chill haze cuts clarity, but no sediment is noted. The aroma is wonderfully juicy, offering notes of citric, piney, and nectary floral hops, with a background cast of earthen herbals and metallics, bright plastics, booze and black pepper, sweet honey, warm table creamer, clean pale malts, wet Muscat grapes, lemon and tangerine juiciness, crayon waxiness, coriander, and dried parsley. Our first impression is that the hop profile is a bit more sweet than expected, but this makes it sip incredibly well, and go down smooth as ever. As we sip, the taste opens with freshly floral and flavorfully citric hops, herbal mint and basil leafiness, floral pollen, plastic phenols, pseudo earthen woodiness, dirty sweatiness, tin, freshly squeezed white grape juice, honey sugars, peachy fruitiness, spicy pale maltiness, and ground black pepper. The middle comes to a peak with mango, red cherry, and pear fruitiness, carrot tops, beginning twangs of fusel booziness, especially with warmth, along with fresh dill seediness, tomato juiciness, continued dirt and earth, and sugary sweet, floral and herbal hoppiness. The end washes cleanly, with soapy and citric hops, solid pale graininess, Mott’s apple juiciness, those aromatic herbal varietals, cloying white sugars, vanilla icing and angel food cake moistness, marmalade fruitiness, and continued pear and tropical fruitiness. The aftertaste breathes of dew-covered morning moss, earthen mineral, fresh soapy, citric, and lightly piney hops, aromatic rosy rumbles, spearmint, light booziness, souring lemon juice and seed, pencil graphite and woodiness, cinnamon sugar, dry water crackers, carrot leafiness, and pear fruitiness to round things off. The body is soft and light for the style, and the carbonation is the same. The slurp on the sip is dainty and beautiful, with excellent cream, smack, froth, and crispness to the finishing pop. The mouth is coated and cooled, with quick rawness and astringency of the hops and the alcohol most noted across the hard palate, flanking the teeth. The abv is appropriate, and drinkability is undeniably quaffable.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was its drinkability, but this didn’t come too far after its bright aroma and flavoring. Our first thought when sniffing back on this guy was “Heady Topper”. It seems like, across most aspects of the beer, they were attempting to mimic that exact profile, with bright and tropical fruitiness, clean malts, and insanely juicy, but invitingly clean hops. To compare to Hop Wallop, the beer that Dirtwolf (I keep thinking, saying, and typing “Direwolf”…can’t shake it for some reason!!) is replacing, it is very different. The former attempts much more to knock you to the ground with as big a hop bitterness as they can muster, whereas here, the goal appears to be cleanliness of blend and form, drinkability, and more delicate (but explosive) hops inclusions. Either way this is a welcomed beer, and Victory really nailed this one. While this may not be the most “original” DIPA, this will easily become a fridge regular as it’s got just the right blend that makes beers like this so approachable, with a consistent experience that is reproducible every time.

After reading the reviews this popped right into my wants. Then on a lowly day when beer shopping my phone died, unable to turn to BA for advice. With no particular wants in mind I picked this up, read the description on the side and knew I had to try it. This ended up as a want twice and for good reason. Smells and tastes primarily of citrus, mostly grabbing grapefruit and apple, surprisingly brings a brisk spice aspect once the pine comes forward. Aftertaste is dry and suitable to taste. Mouthfeel is crisp with biting carbonation. So easy and pleasurable to drink, my new personal go-to.

Had a growler filled at Premier Gourmet this weekend....I love that place.Poured into an impy nonic a clear light to medium golden with a great looking blooming white head that left two multiple rings of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Pine and grapefruit along with sugary sweetness in the nose, there is drunken fruit element to it.Fresh citric hops greet the taste buds that melds into a grassiness and then into a sweet dough caramel base,a sugary alcohol element is there but doesn't overpower the hops.I like it,top 5....not sure, but it kicks ass.

12oz bottle poured into Mr. Pint.

Appearance: A hazy, mostly translucent yellow with brisk bubbling action and a white head that leaves a little bit of lacing on the side of the glass as it slowly dies down.

Smell: Holy complex nose, Batman! Citrus, hops, pine, grass, grapefruit all just take their turn in blasting out for my enjoyment.

Taste: Very much reflects the nose. Nice, complex - and distinct - flavors centered around citrus, pine, grass, and hops hit pretty good.

Mouthfeel: Pretty crisp. A little bit of the pine lingers as an aftertaste.

Overall: Well, then. $9.45 for a 4 pack well spent!

Eww, like licking a pine cone mixed in a pool of bitters. I won't be drinking many IPAs, I have taste buds unfortunately.

A: A light colored DIPA that is a deep golden beer with good clarity. The white head is quick to fade into a thin cap of soapy bubbles.

S: A strong citrus hops aroma that mostly has notes of grapefruit, pine, some pineapple and a fair amount of an herbal character. There is a light malt a sweetness and a low alcohol sweetness.

T: An aggressive hops bitterness and a very strong citrus hop flavors. The hop flavors are a lemon/lime, pine, some mango and little citrus zest. There is just enough malt for support and nothing more making for a very bitter balance. The finish is off-dry with a lingering, citrus hops flavor and bitterness. There is some herbal qualities to the hop flavor that is more apparent towards the finish.

M: A medium bodied beer with a light creaminess and a strong level of carbonation.

O: A very well crafted Double IPA that brings a ton of American citrus hops to the party. The entire focus and balance of the beer is out towards showcasing the hops.
