12oz Bottle Poured into Snifter
A: Golden amber, large bubbly white 2 finger head
S: As soon as I popped the top, I was greeted by a fantastic hop aromas. Huge citrus, floral, herbal aromas with a slight malty sweetness.
T: Fantastic flavors given off by the hops. Not a HOP BOMB that's overly bitter, but the flavors play well off of the hops used. Follows suit with the nose, with additional earthy/herbal and slight boozeness.
M: Creamy and oily. Nice warming on the back end.
O: A solid IIPA. I like that fact that its not overly bitter like so many other doubles; instead it's a solid tasty hop bouquet balanced nicely with a nice malty sweet and boozy backbone. A great brew!

Re-rating this based off a fresh from the tap beer at Victory. I had previously rated this a 3.75 a long time back when I first had it and that was underrated. This review I tried to temper with the fact that most likely the bottle can't live up to what I'm having here, but my thought is it is closer to this rating than my original.
A: hazy-to-cloudy pale yellow with a great head and lots of lacing.
S: this fresh beer is probably a 5+ for an IPA. Smells like opening a piney hop bag for home brewing (unfortunately I don't know what fresh hops themselves smell like, but I can guess). Downside-all you get is hops, upside is the same. Did not give a 5 b/c in am guessing this is as fresh as you can get, and that affects it. Then again, never had any fresh IPA with this amount of hop nose. Oh-smells like your fresh cut Christmas tree.
T: the crazy pine scent does not come into the taste initially. The taste has a base earthy taste, with some citrus notes. The pine enters early mid taste, soon after the lemon-touched grapefruit taste, which is something that doesn't always work for me, but I do t mind it as much here as there is a little sweetness (honey-like) that lessens the blow.
M: very good carbonation, medium body. The ending is quite dry and a bit resinous.
O: definitely deserves a try and can see why it held a spot near the top of the IPA list at one point. I pick this up from time to time already, but will have to check what I get in bottles against this review.
