A - pale gold with a nice finger of soft silky head. Good wispy lace retention.

S - surprisingly earthy with grassy and lemon notes. Also a hint of peach. Not the dank citrus bomb you would expect.

T - taste brings lemon, orange and grapefruit, but not in a sharp or aggressive way. Soft touches of mango and peach also follow. All of this against a grassy, herbal backdrop. Nice bready caramel malt center. Dry floral finish.

M - mouthfeel is soft and dry almost more like a Belgian blonde or saison than an IPA.

Overall, nicely restrained, with a lot of nuanced flavors. Doesn't smack you in the face like a lot of DIPAs. It's strangely reminiscent of some sort of Ocean Spray cran-peach-guava juice. Quite tasty and drinkable.

Too bad Victory stopped putting dates on their bottles...

Bright orange that becomes hazy as the last bit is poured. Frothy collar of lace around the edges of the glass, not the longest lasting retention or surface coverage.

Pungent hop aroma, floral sandalwood and slightly cheesy.

Resinous bitterness, slight citrusy sweetness, bready malt middle. Dry aftertaste, some dried citrus peel. Fairly smooth and easy to drink, abv is felt but not overbearing. It's good but not especially nuanced, not really a world beater in my opinion.

Both on draft and in bottle.

I have to say the bottle actually tasted better and more crisp, because the taste of this product really changes with temperature and glass type.

On draft at the Forest Hills Station House in tulip glasses. Overall good, and one of the best IPA's they have ever had but not as good as our pregame, a four pack of chilled bottles in chalice glasses.

Comparing this to Hop Ranch, well there isn't much of a comparison, this blows Hop Ranch out of the water. Or perhaps I just need to have my palette bombarded by hops, and Dirtwolf certainly delivers.

Definitely a top 5 IPA for me, possibly top 3. I actually prefer this to Stone Ruination, but not Enjoy By.

One strange characteristic of Dirtwolf though is that the high alcohol content gives me a slight migraine for a few minutes. Not sure if it's the hops and sugar or what, but taste wise, this is definitely a work a art for the boys in Downington.

Crisp amber body? Check. Small cream head, with decent lacing? Check. Sweet malts as a prelude to juicy fruity hops? Check. Nose finishes pine-ish, and round as a gumball. Tongue follows the same blueprint. This is not a groundbreaking beer by any means, but what it is is very delicious. Finish is sweet giving way to a gently abrasive finish. As I said this is not breaking any new ground, but it is extremely enjoyable. Would gladly grab another.

Really eager to try this anticipated Double IPA from Victory, love their stuff!

A - Nice, hazy golden yellow . Mellow, yet inviting

S - Ok, now I get it. I have seen and heard the term "cat pee" and always shook my head. I won't anymore. Wow, about as uninviting as it gets, and I get that this particular hop has that effect.

T - MUCH better than the smell. starts out grapefruit, more pith than peel, bitter, piney grass, and subtle tangerine in there somewhere. Sticky - bigtime. But that good bitter you want from a double.

M - smoother than what it sounds, definite layers and various taste profiles here. I kinda dig that. Not a boring offering, that is for sure!

O - I expected more. Unfortunately when there is a lot of hype for a product, there is an expectation that you cannot help but to have. There will be those who swear by this, and those that will not get it, not even for a minute. I fall somewhere in between, as I think it is worth a try, but does not rock my particular vote. Am going to grab some Harvest ales next....

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a very bright, goldenrod coloring with sediment throughout and a steady flow of carbonation throughout the body. A sparse, film, bright white surface coat of head clings throughout while you drink. Aromas of wet, resinous hops, with bitter notes throughout, tangy citrus highlights of tangerine and grapefruit, subtle pine notes, and a rich caramel backbone. This smells pretty damn good! Flavors are roast and resin forward, with piney notes throughout. Subtle citrus highlights accent the bold malt backbone of caramel, and there are kicks of pepper, cut grass, pine tassel, and bitterness throughout. Very dynamic and layered palate, with a resinous undertone throughout that is a hophead's dream. Very tasty, and very drinkable despite increased ABV and heavier taste profiles. The body is robust and smooth, yet kept light with the increased carbonation. That same carbonation also helps clean up the finish, which comes together as a crisp, slightly effervesced, bitter finale. Great beer!
