Victory DirtWolf Double IPA

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a shaker pint glass. Served chilled...

A) Nice golden amber brew with a good finger of head. The head settled to a dusting, and stuck around for the duration. Lots of sticky lacing.

S) Piney.... Pretty dank and earthy, and yet there is some sweetness to this aroma as well. Like sweet tangerine.

T) Decent balance of hops and malt. Starts out with some sweetness, and transitions to spicy hop bitterness. A little alcohol as it warms up.

M) Medium body with moderate carbonation. A good amount of bitterness coats your mouth. This finishes up with a little sweetness and light booze.

O) Pretty good stuff... Not smooth by any means, and the aftertaste could be better, but I could go for another already.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont MA, "Enjoy By 07/04/2014", poured into my The Bruery "Rue the Day" snifter and drank while reviewing over an hour. Note I enjoyed it the week after it was bottled - this beer is one to have super fresh as it falls apart quickly (it's only real drawback) I think many of the poor reviews come from drinking it a month or more old....

A ) amber coloration, high clarity with some haze, initial frothy white head that settles into a subtle glass lacing; middle alcohol legs.

S ) classic PW hop aromas - pine, citrus, tropical fruit; with some malt breadiness in the back

T ) Orange, mango, papaya, pine; with other flavors continue to develop but are balanced out with some booze; finishes dry and refreshing with some toasty alcohol!

M ) Moderate body, lots of hop oils, alcohol fullness

O ) One of the most fantastic IIPA's I've had in a while. Well pronounced aromas and flavors leave you wanting more - though watch out for the alcohol @ 8.7% it will catch up to you quick if you don't blow out your taste buds on the hops first

Excellent copper hue, quite a lot of smooth hoppiness, a bit more alcohol and because of it can creep up on you fast. Very pleasant citrusy nose. Compares well to double IPAs from Stone and southern Tier. It was served in a snifter glass and I waited a little while for it to open up.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass, couldn’t find a date but hoping its fairly fresh. Poured a quite light golden colour, very clear with a solid head of dense white head, showing excellent retention, body, and lacing.

S – intense grapefruit, pungent and bitter, very forward, maybe some white grape notes, and a touch of candy sweetness (cherry/currents). Floral notes creep in also, start to mix up more of the musty earthy character after the citrus edges off, some actual yeast profile is apparent. Quite complex and rounded.

T – a full creamy grapefruit start, with an almond note, earthy by the mid point, some bready malts but all round a solid balanced platform for the hops to shine, florals, grapefruit citrus, some pepperiness also for sure, this has some heat as well as some earthy character. Goes big on the citrus for sure, but this definitely isn't one-dimensional, theres a lot going on and it tastes great.

M – full and balanced, remarkably drinkable and satisfying for the strength, theres a little bitterness and dryness on the finish which works well. Carbonation is at a really good level to just ease the beer along without overwhelming the flavours and it leaves a slick feel on the way down.

A well crafted impressive DIPA. Given the chance to develop this is one satisfyingly complex beer, taste is fantastic and everything is in quite harmony. A winner, glad I was able to try this.
